SAT scores don't mean everything, but....why does my town lose to Glastonbury and Farmington every single time?! :'(

WOW, why are the scores so low in CT? I know CT has great schools, but there is a huge disparity between the scores in the top high schools in CT vs. the top high schools in MA. The 1799 average combined in Darien wouldn't even put it in the top 10 in MA where all the top schools consistently score 1800+. I think our top school actually broke 2000 this year.

Eh, SAT scores only account for at most 1/3 of your college admissions. They look for additional activities, clubs, sports, GPA, etc. I was never the world's best test taker but I contributed in class and knew my stuff, as well as wrote some amazing papers and project work. I never got why tests were always held so heavy on grades instead of participation, homework, etc.

Yeah yeah, if you take charter schools with selective attendance out of the equation we're close to parity. Lexington, Newton, and Weston are the only full on public HS' that trump Darien/Wilton. It also appears that there is some gamesmanship with respect to Lexington--- only 478 out of 600 seniors took the SAT?

Good analysis. I wasn't questioning the quality of CT schools. I was just wondering why the top school was "only" 1799 since I'm used to seeing 1800+ every year. Good question about Lexington; I really have no idea. That does sound like an awful lot of seniors though. It's possible they are including the students who take their core classes part time at Lexington and then get bussed to the vocational HS to learn their trade.

Seems odd, but if wikipedia is accurate (not always the case), there were 478 kids that graduated form LHS last year?

Darien HS was tops the previous year at 1814, Wilton was tops the year before that at 1802 and Darien again topped the rankings in 2010-11 at 1810.

However, given the sheer number of top colleges & universities in the Boston area, it's no surprise that the top high schools in Mass outperform the top schools in CT. Even if you consider Harvard & Yale to be a wash, there is no equivalent to MIT in Connecticut.

How does the proximity of elite universities relate to public HS SAT scores?

the sons and daughters of college professors generally make excellent students (EO Smith from Storrs is usually up there in CT rankings - the same with Amherst near UMass)
