I live in Newington and love it. A nice walkable downtown. Great programs for kids. Healthy city finances with low debt.

What kind of commute would I be looking at from Glastonbury to Cromwell? Thanks again for your help.

Glastonbury is pretty out of the way from Cromwell. It's about half an hour. There is also no public transportation in Glastonbury or to/from anywhere else. Berlin, Rocky Hill, Middletown are probably best and closest. I would even suggest Wethersfield. Cromwell is a really nice town as well.

We had our daughter in daycare in Glastonbury for a while when I worked in hartford & my wife in Colchester and we lived in Ellington. If needed, my mom or dad in Cromwell could pick my daughter up from daycare in Glastonbury - it would take them 10 minutes to get there. So, unless you buy a home in northeast Glastonbury on the border of Manchester, you probably won't be 30 minutes from Cromwell.

I wouldn't even waste my time with looking. You should wait until your wife and family joins you, AND your wife finds work as a teacher. If your wife were teaching in Danbury for example, and you have little kids -- none of the towns mentioned here would work for you.

See where she works first, then look in that town or area. It's important mothers are close-by to kids' schools. Especially her being a teacher and you a doctor.

Glastonbury is about 12 miles from Cromwell depending on where you live and where you work. It is actually closer, right across the river, but to cross the Connecticut River you have to drive north to the Putnam Bridge or south to the Arrigoni to cross it. I would not call that out of the way. Also, Glastonbury does have bus service that connects it to Hartford, Manchester, East hartford and Wethersfield. While there are many nice towns nearby, if the OP is looking for an affluent town with top rated schools, Glastonbury would be a good choice. Jay
