They saw the change ahead of time and are probably better for it.

Soon your cable company will be nothing more than an internet provider competing directly with mobile phone companies for marketshare, and you will be able to select channels based on what you watch rather than whole packages. I cannot wait for that day but until it comes I'm only 6 months out from ditching Comcast, keeping my Amazon and Netflix, possibly adding Hulu and HBO Go, and picking up an HD antenna to receive local channels. That's all I need and my cost will be fractional to what we pay now for cable.
In East Lyme, the other option is Metrocast, which is more than double the price for speeds that are about the same, and mediocre TV service.

There is no Comcast option in East Lyme, or Cox, or Cablevision or google fiber or verizon fios.

I've been using Frontier internet for a year now, and their service has been pretty rock solid. No complaints.

What's funny is I see Frontier cable / phone trucks out nearly every day on this side of the road working on wires/poles.

They are signing up a lot of new people or making a lot of repairs.

I almost never see Cox or Comcast trucks.

Probably repairing a lot of the old copper.

Any reviews on Frontier Internet speeds in Lake Hills area of Fairfield? I see 24 mbs for $39 but wondering if they deliver it consistently. Don't care about cable or voice. Thanks

I've never had a problem getting that speed consistently were I live, but I'm located in central CT.

So I went to the darkside and made the switch to Optimum on Friday. Tried to get Frontier to match Optimum's deal for new subs, and they wouldn't budge. They actually told me that they could lower my monthly price by lowering my internet speed! I told them no dice and I was going to Optimum and they could care less. So I'm getting 4x the internet speed (25 vs 100) with phone and TV for about $80 less per month on a two year promo deal. The only downside I can see is that Optimum has less HD channels than Frontier, so that channels I used to get in HD I will only get in SD. I really don't understand why they even offer SD channels anymore - I haven't seen an SD TV in years.

I'm hoping that Optimum has gotten much better in the 10 years since I last had them, especially since they are under new ownership. But can't say I've been thrilled with Frontier's CS either.

.
100 percent agree. EVERY channel cable companies offer should be available in full HD. It's 2017.

Cablevision/Altice was small enough that they really couldn't migrate easily off their legacy video platform. They're about 4 years behind Comcast. All new Comcast subscribers in most regions are on their X1 IP streaming video solution. The legacy Motorola (now Arris) and Scientific Atlanta (now Cisco) gear only has a very limited number of HD channels. The end game with all the cable operators is to throw that gear in the dumpster and run nothing but DOCSIS 3.1 to the home so voice, data, and video are all sharing the same underlying technology. It requires changing the upstream & downstream frequencies to do it right so it's a pretty big change to the plant.
