So....we have two school aged children and are contemplating Ridgefield, CT because the schools are remarkable. However, we're city folks and are concerned about: Commute to WP, Diversity or lack thereof, and is it too remote and would it be a serious culture shock for us? We're currently in Westchester County.

If you're used to bigger cities it might feel "remote", but everything you need is in Ridgefield.

Demographic information is readily available. Ridgefield is largely white and upper middle class. Not much for diversity if that's what you're looking for.

It will feel as remote as northern Westchester areas/towns, such as Bedford, Lewisboro, North Salem, etc. It's a lovely town and the schools are top notch. White Plains is an easy commute down 684 -- probably 35 minutes. Not much diversity though.

A good part of Ridgefield is very close to Danbury, which has a large mall and all the big box stores you'll need as well.

Not to mention a quick drive to Norwalk and Westport.

When you say "City Folk", what do you mean? Are you Manhattanites that are use to having a lot of restaurants and entertainment within a short walk of your cramp apartment? If so, then yes it will be a shock. Ridgefield has restaurants and entertainment options but it is somewhat limited unless you want to drive to other towns. Everything you need to live a good suburban life is either in Ridgefield or nearby so I would not worry about it. It is not much different than most of Westchester. Jay

It's a great town, and I suggest you spend some time in Ridgefield to get a feel for the town and see if there is a fit. There are plenty of NYC transplants in the area. But it is a bedroom community. You will need a car to get around and there's not much in the way of diversity. Good luck.
