They can't double-deck 95 due to the cost. So how do you propose that they will find the $$$ to take all of these properties and construct extra lanes????
Might as well make the top deck an express lane right into NYC while we're at it. No seriously, has this ever been done elsewhere in the world? A double decker highway is way cooler than Emmitt's double decker couch.

There are plenty of things that can be done/tried before we attempt to construct additional lanes. The problem is that nobody has the fortitude to implement changes.

We'd love to have you up in the Hartford area Cambium! And as a nice bonus for you, it'll be a few degrees colder with about a 12-18'' more snow annually

Westchester and Northern NJ are way higher - sometimes 2x - on property tax on comparable homes.

Stamford makes sense when you're within striking distance of the train station. Otherwise it's a very difficult proposition to commute by car.

I know that at my jobs in Norwalk and Westport, more than half the workforce commuted from north and east and had to put up with the traffic. At least the Norwalk gig had direct train access.

There are many reason NYC workers prefer Connecticut. Northern New Jersey is very densely developed and has little charm. The towns that do have charm and good schools are insanely expensive and have taxes that are more than towns in Connecticut. Also most commuters into Manhattan must chyange trains to cross the Hudson River, so their commute is less direct and can actually be longer.

As for upstate New York, to be witin an hour of Manhattan you would have to be living in Westchester and maybe portions of Rockland County. Westchester is very pricey and has high taxes and commuter rail service to Rockland involves going through New Jersey and changing trains to cross the Hudson River. As you can see, there is no easy answer. If there were savy New Yorkers would have thought of it long ago. Jay

The corporate office parks on High Ridge and Long Ridge have pretty easy access to the Merritt. I'll venture to say that these locations are generally superior for car commuting than downtown. Less traffic, less lights and less pedestrians.
