I think you are correct. In fact, when we go back to Vermont now, I find myself to be the aggressive driver after being "trained" to survive on the highways here over the past year! But it would be nice if drivers here learned to slow down a bit and not be in such a hurry that they have to be first everywhere they are going.

Anyone who lives from Philadelphia to Boston sucks at driving, not just CT. I will say that if you go to the midwest, northwest or the south, drivers are a lot more courteous and calm.

The Northeast, and CT in particular, has the highest rate of reported road rage in the county. That says something.

This is partially true. People tend to be more aggressive in populated areas, but in cities like NYC, Boston and Miami, the rate of road rage is far higher than that of San Francisco, Dallas or Seattle, all of which have just as much congestion.

The bottom line is aggression is widely known to be a trait of people in the Northeast. It can be a bit overstated but it is generally accurate IMO.

Why are people in the Northeast more aggressive? Never heard that one before

Having lived in or near and driven in San Antonio, Austin, Houston, Los Angeles, Reno, Dallas, Hartford, New Haven, Bridgeport, there is no real difference in drivers in any of those towns.

I read that and looked it up myself…. looks like many studies were done on personalities of different regions…northeast was deemed most "neurotic" in a few of them. Makes sense to me, people here are definitely more type A, paranoid and in your face…

Funny this came up. I was in South Carolina and off-the-cuff mentioned I wanted to move down there. She put down her drink looked at me and said you'll never be able to make it here, you worry too much.

I guess when up here I don't see it because we are cut from the same mold, but when you are out of your element it is on display.

I would also be interested in how our health (mainly stress related, hearth attacks, strokes. I know some areas have more illness because of the terrible diets.) compare to other parts of the Country. New Englander's we are go-go-go; it has to have some health repercussions.

It seems we are in a rush for everything and driving is just part of daily grind.

I've been driving exactly 30 years and I lived in NY before CT. There are bad and rude drivers everywhere, not just CT.
The only thing I can really complain about here on the parkway is that people don't know how to merge on to a parkway properly......its like they see you doing 55-60 and they are doing 10 on the on ramp and they see you and nail it so they try to stay ahead of you.......and all they wind up doing is cutting you off. Happens every morning and night to me.
The other thing is drivers are a little more aggressive in the left lanes more here than I remember in NY. Not sure why.
But overall, people suck no matter what state you drive in.

I see this happen so frequently. It's quite scary. I've also experienced several people RUNNING the stop sign that allows them to enter onto the Merritt, as either myself or someone else directly in front of them, is driving directly in that right line. On a dry day, it's horrible... but on a wet, rainy, or snowy day, it inevitably leads to disaster.

If people exercised a more caution and courtesy, and considerably less selfishness and douch-ness, this wouldn't be an issue. Nevertheless, they do it. I never understood, and will never undestand, what makes someone think their time is more valuable than mine or anyone else's who's sharing the road(s) with him/her.

I've lived in CT for about 2 years now, as well as a few other states in the past, and I agree...bad drivers are everywhere..
