Best Towns to buy house for 30-something single
I've lived in Norwalk, CT for the past 10 years and in Fairfield County my whole life. I'm tired of the high costs, congested highways, and crowded Post Road on the weekend.
I'm looking to buy a house in a town that is dog-friendly, more reasonably priced, has easy access to hiking, biking and other outdoor activities, easy access to highways, easier shopping and nice/reasonable restaurants in town, walkable streets, and neat/well-taken care of yards. In addition, I'd like to be in an area where there are other singles. Any recommendations?

Where do you work? How much can you spend? If you need to be commutable to Norwalk then consider Stratford or Milford. Possibly Bridgeport or New Haven if you want a more urban life. Jay

I can afford a house in the 200,000's. I am not much of a city person. I'm a teacher so if the distance is not commutable to work, I was planning on finding a new job.

Honest to God, I'm not saying this because I live here LOL but check out Manchester.
You have literally hiking/biking trails in your backyard (case mountain), are on the edge of the city (Hartford) and the countryside with great access to highways, shopping, good restaurants abound etc with a younger diverse crowd and decent housing can be had in your budget. Hartford Downtown and all of it's cultural amenities is 15 minutes away with easy access as well. We are a small city 10 miles East of Hartford. Sounds like Hamden might be a good fit for you. Close to New Haven, hiking (Sleeping Giant State Park) and a very reasonable cost of living for its location.

I agree with you jviello, I adore living in Manchester, I also moved here from Stratford and could not be happier. It is a great town with an oldfasion feel and modern offerings. My children (5 of them) have flourished and become so much more than I ever expected. I love the midget football league, the instrumental public program, the people, everything.
Also, Manchester is the only town in the state that has a special CHFA program for first time home buyers. I also love our new mayor, Lou Spadaccini. Sincerely, Julia Malik
