I do not think it is uncommon for the top of Killington to be open at this time of the year. I remember friends used to go there for Thanksgiving years back and the slopes had already been open for several weeks. Jay
Just found this... Awesome stats, I wish more kept things like this.
Ah I guess I meant more like, I never hear about people that live in NY going there either. But maybe that's just the circle of people I've known and known of.
Gotcha. I am from upstate NY so that didn't really resonate with me because Gore is a fairly common destination for people in the Albany area. I'm also a long time vacationer in the Adirondacks, and that area has been undergoing a revival in popularity for tourism very recently so you may hear more about it soon.
Listen to the loud scratching every turn especially as they pass the cameraman. A 1/2 inch(at best) of powder over hardpack on the trail their skiing on. As far as why it was uncommon for killington to open up earlier before 2001 in oct it's because of massive investment in snowmaking infrastructure over time. Not due to colder/snowier modern times. Also, look at number of top to bottom trails actually open. It's only a few. Totally reliant on snow guns.
Should be cold enough to make snow after tomorrow so it wont look like this anymore. lol
