For many years, the Towns of Shelton and Seymour were looked down upon by neighboring towns in Fairfield County. That has changed. Shelton has become one of the areas largest employment centers with a lot of new office complexes. Homes in Shelton now rival those of more seemingly affluent towns like Trumbull, Monroe and Fairfield. Home prices too have risen in Shelton where they are now comparable to those towns as well. Schools in Shelton use to be funded less than other Fairfield County towns but now are comparable with test scores exceeding the state averages.

With the cost of housing in Fairfield County becoming out of reach for many people, Seymour has become one of the Naugatuck River Valley towns that people are looking at. Reasonably priced large newer homes are being built there and people are finding it to be an affordable alternative to Fairfield County or the grittier adjacent towns like Ansonia and Derby. Schools in Seymour test around the state average. Recent upgrades to the downtown area (including a new supermarket) have made it a nice area to shop as well. Hope this helps. Jay

Shelton is a nice little city with a lot of shopping and restaurants, and a wide range of housing options. You could choose a rural area of the city to live in, or if you prefer you could choose to live near it's downtown. You will find it's more affordable the closer you are to downtown Shelton.

Shelton has decent elementary schools, but the surrounding towns such as Monroe, Trumbull and Fairfield have much higher rated schools.

Here is a great website that will help to compare schools from town to town:
Search for Connecticut public schools.

My cousin left Bridgeport a number of years ago to buy a home in Shelton and he is very happy there. His wife is from the Bronx so it is an easy drive for them to visit her parents on the weekend. They have two young children and they are happy with the school system. They are a working class family, however they bought before Shelton was really known. I'm sure prices have gone up since then.
