My husband will be renting an apartment in Enfield near 91 and commuting to Travelers Insurance in downtown Hartford. Can anyone please tell me what the commute will be like?

I assume he will be driving during rush hour. Like any large city he will need to deal with traffic getting into downtown. He should plan to add about 15 minutes to the drive if he is doing that. Another option would be to look into express commuter buses by CT Transit. Jay

Thanks JayCT! Yes, he will be traveling during rush hour. We got a really great deal on a small quiet apt., with a garage in Enfield, right near 91. He'll be commuting home Thursday and then heading back either Sunday night / Monday morning. What time does the morning rush intensify?

Surprisingly Interstate 91 South towards Hartford isn't nearly as bad as Interstate 84. To answer your question, the morning rush usually starts around 7:00-7:30 and ends just after 9:30. It differs every day and it depends on the weather and what not. The traffic on Interstate 91 South starts in Windsor and usually ends in either Wethersfield or Rocky Hill. The afternoon rush hour starts around 3:30 or 4 because that's when a lot of company's in downtown get out of work.

Not a bad commute. Bus service options available as well. If he leaves early about 30 mins. My wife travels from North Granby. It's about 40 to 45 mins but it takes 25 mins just to get to 91 from our house.

It is about 20 miles from Enfield to Hartford and normally takes about 20 minutes without traffic. I would give yourself about 35 to 45 minutes to commute in case of hitting traffic. Traffic usually starts picking up around the I-291 interchange on I-91 southbound. It will then be slow going all the way down to I-84. The ramp from I-91 Southbound to I-84 westbound is always backed up a mile or so but once you pass that, it should not be bad. Of course your husband should listen to the morning traffic report in case there is an accident that would require him to leave earlier. Jay
