Would you favor installing tolls on interstate highways such as I-95 or I-84 if they were tied to a major reconstruction project like that currently being planned in Hartford?

Nope. Not unless something else BIG is cut (like property taxes on our vehicles or sales tax).

Edited to say cut = removed, not trimmed down a bit

I thought most people on here said that tolls could not be put onto the interstates, and that we'd lose a boatload of federal money if we did?

I'd vote "no", though.

Yes, only if taxes (car, gas) remain the same or get reduced.

Do we really need tolls when our gas tax is nearly 50% higher than the rest of New England? We also have the highest property tax on autos in the nation. Live within your means. Eliminate (e.g., convert to 401k) municipal and state employee pensions then we can talk. The property tax should go towards local infrastructure (although not necessarily exclusively) while gas tax covers the state roads.

This is a Pilot Program that allows tolls on interstates that would be reconstructed like I-84 west of downtown Hartford. The state needs to spend a couple of billion to replace the Aetna Viaduct. The Federal Highway Administration has realized that a major project like that will not get built without finding an alternate source of funding. This would allow that alternative funding. The other option would be to wait in line for funding to become available. This is why the Q Bridge project in New Haven took over 20 years to go from planning to construction. The state did not have $2.4 billion so the project was phased over the past 15 years. This would allow the whole project to be funded and built at once which will cut years off the timeline if it is allowed. Jay

I'm not against them per se, but I voted no. I agree with W2PA - this is going to be seen as a new revenue stream and the legislature will not net it against the gas or car taxes.

I'm undecided on this. That said, they should have a "lock box" on the gas tax at a minimum before doing anything.

Juts some more BS from your state officials, where has all the money been going previously ? Do CT residents like more taxes and fees? Seems like it.
