-It's within 1 hour and 20ish minutes of the Norwalk area (not including traffic- which we all know- can add on who knows how much time).

-It's rural. I'm not talking mountains, streams, and tons of woods- but more farm like. (I know- we don't have a ton of this in CT- but I know it exists.)

-It has a lower cost of living compared to the rest of CT- more house and land for less money. School quality does NOT matter.

-It avoids 95/the Merritt as much as possible (so in the route 8 area- probably?)

Does it exist? Is it Litchfield or somewhere close to that area I'm thinking? I'm thinking it doesn't truly exist in CT- but it's worth a shot hah! I work from home 4 days a week and so living in a more expensive part of CT right now just to be closer to work (that I only go into once- at off peak times none the less) seems a little silly- so looking at options before I buy since I just rent now. Ps. I grew up in CT and have lived here most of my life- so pretty familiar with it- but still drawing a blank on a town that might fit this description- probably because it's impossible!

Thanks!

Woodbury...?

Somewhere else along the southern border of Litchfield/Fairfield?

I'm pretty sure Woodbury is a little pricey isn't it? I generally avoid house hunting there on realtor because I thought it was high. I'll check it out!

Are there farm-y areas out there? Not just woodsy? I think you might be right... I used to spend a lot of time in Brookfield.

Lots of towns in the Litchfield/Woodbury area.

You could also look into northwestern New Haven County: Bethany, Beacon Falls, Oxford, Southbury. Good value there.

An even better value might be the lower CT River Valley, and eastern New Haven County.

Some great rural towns include Middlefield, Durham, Killingworth, Essex, Chester, Deep River, northern Guilford/Madison, East Haddam, etc. Some of these may be your best value overall.

Bethany, Southbury and Oxford are a good value compared to lower FFC, but are not at all cheaper than the average CT town. Plus IMO Southbury and Oxford are more residential than rural these days. Not many farms.

I think I'd have to agree with the posters who said Morris and Bethlehem. I'd also throw Goshen into the mix.
