What are some mottos or slogans that certain cities and towns throughout CT have? I'll start the first few and comment on them.

Stamford - The city that works

These signs are posted all over the city and I think it fits the city well. Stamford has a major corporate feel with a lot of GDP.

Granby - Pride of the valley

You can see this motto posted on signs on major routes that enter the town. I think it suits the town well, though it's questionable as to what the rationale was for coming up with a motto like this one.

Are there any other cities and towns in CT that have their own mottos and what is the meaning behind them?

Please bold your town and motto so that people can simply scroll through the thread and look at them real quick.

Bridgeport sis the Park City because of the number of parks it has (Seaside, Beardsley, 90 Acres, etc.). I believe its motto is "In industry we thrive" but I can't confirm it online. Jay

Southbury - Unica Unaque ["The One and Only"]

...because it's the only town in the country with that name.

Waterbury - Quid Aere Perennius ["What Is More Lasting Than Brass?"]

...for obvious reasons.. though kind of ironic!

Actually New Britain is the Hardware City because it is home to the Stanley Tool Company. Also add that Hartford is the Insurance Capitol, Danbury is the Hat City and Norwich is the Rose City. Jay

This is a cheer heard during New Britain High school football games. I'm not sure when it came about.

Otherwise like Jay said New Britain is known as The Hardware City

Meriden "Silver City"

Manchester "Silk City"

Bristol "Clock City"

Hartford "Insurance Capital of the World"

Groton "Submarine Capital of the World"

Well, not sure if they are mottos or nicknames

Cromwell used to be known as Rosetown because of the quality of the roses grown there. (I grew up there in the 70s and 80s and supposedly, before that time, they used to supply some roses for the Rose Bowl or the Tournament or Roses parade)

East Hampton was Belltown from the bell factory there, and their high school mascot was The Bellringers. (Could still be?)

I know there are others, but I'm drawing a blank right now - long day.
