Default Wethersfield,Wallingford and driverslicece

Its been a while but me and my family are now concretely planning our relocation from Germany to CT. My husband will work Meriden (start april 1st). As we can only stay for 2,5 years we are looking for a house for rent. Until now I was looking for houses in the Avion, Farmington, West Hartford area as well as GLastonbury. Now I found nice big houses (we will soon have 4 kids...) in Weathersfield as well as Wallingford. I understand the public schools in Wallingford are not very good, how about thouse two towns anyway? Does anybody know anything about it?
Another question: We will have to get a US-driverslicece and a saving account - how does that work?
Thank you for any help!
Nats

I wouldn't say that there is anything wrong with Wallingford schools. They are pretty good, but not as high up as Avon or other towns you mentioned. Wallingford is real close to Meriden and is a good choice. Other towns to look into that offer the same services and such as Wallingford would be Cheshire, Berlin, and Southington which are 20 minutes driving distance to Meriden. I don't know how many houses will be for rent though as these towns have high amounts of single family owned homes.

As for opening a bank account you will need to be in the U.S. to do it at the bank. They usually ask to see things like a passport and a contract/bill that shows your address and probably your visa. A driver's license you will have to be here and go to the office and bring identification as well to prove who you are and your address. You are entitled to drive on a foreign license I believe for a certain period of time. Here are the requirements to obtain a license in Connecticut for non-u.s. citizens DMV: Requirements for Foreigners Obtaining a Connecticut Driver's License

Both Wallingford and Wethersfield have very good schools. I believe that both towns perform above the State average on the Connecticut Mastery Tests and have reasonable class sizes. You should understand though that the other town you mention (Avon, Farmington, West Hartford and Glastonbury) are towns that have a high percentage of professionals and executives so their schools are have more students coming from homes where education is considered very improtant. This reflects in the test score results. I know families in both Wethersfield and Wallingford and they are satisfied with the schools there. Good luck, Jay

Have lots of family in Wethersfield, including my parents. Wethersfield is a very nice town, especially to raise kids in. The town has I beleive six elementary schools (with the highest rated one being Highcrest Elementary), there is 1 middle school which was recently renovated and one high school which was also recently renovated.

It is a great town to raise kids in - there are crossing guards on every corner, very involved parents, quiet streets and a great school system.

There is a lot of older people living in Wethersfield but there is also a large amount of professionals who work in Hartford or Rocky Hill now and have lived in Wethersfield for years.
