What do you know about Union, CT? It's actually the least populated town in CT. Unless you don't count Fenwick which isn't really considered a town. Would you think this is the least talked about town in the whole state? Many people don't even know where it is on the map. What are your impressions, opinions, and interests about this town?

I think it is better known than a lot of other small towns in Connecticut for two reasons. The first reason i one you already covered; it is famous for being the smallest town in the state in terms of population. The second one is that it is the last two on I-84 going east before you enter Masachusetts.

Either that or that there are multiple quiet lakes in town that many people like to fish at. Didn't they just open up a motor home dealership where there used to be a car dealership? You can see it right off Interstate 84 by the Mass/CT border.

You have to drive through it on 84 east when you're headed to MA. That is literally all I know about it.

From what I've read about it, Union is the smallest town in CT. Population is under 1,000. Last time I visited their website, it said they didn't have a post office or even a bank in town. If you want to be in a truly rural setting, I guess that's the best place to be.

Fenwick is not a town. It is a borough in the Town of Old Saybrook. Union is the state's least populated town with under 1,000 residents. There are few businesses and no town center to speak of. Everybody knows everybody there and it is kind of a trip to get to the amenities that most people want like shopping and entertainment. That said I-84 does go through Union and you are not really that far from Sturbridge and the Mass Pike (I-90). There really isn't much more to know about the town though and I doubt we have any people from this on this forum. Jay

There aren't really any businesses in Union. Probably that sketchy restaurant and Motor home dealership and that's it. You can't buy bread or gas in Union. It's that remote. Union is probably one of the only towns in CT where there are no gas stations.

One interesting fact about Union is that it's mostly protected forest. Surrounding the area is around 50,000 acres of forest but there are all separated into different preserves like the Norcross Wildlife Sanctuary, Yale Forest, Hull Forest and the Nipmuck State Forests (which encompases Bigelow Hollow State Park). It's one of the few places where you can do back country camping in the state and do a medium length overnight hike. I think it's more about the recreational opportunities. There's probably more fishing and recreation places in town than anything else.

For the record, the Books & More restaurant is pretty famous. NOT sketchy at all!

Union is one of the least populated towns in CT. It does not have any commercial property whatsoever. I don't even think it has a public school system. But it does have interstate highway access and a few major state routes going through it. The only time I ever went there was for Bigelow Hollow State Park, which is nice to take walks in. It's very rural and quiet and close to nature. It's extremely quiet. That's all there really is to say about it.
