Smile From Italy to Norwalk. Help!!!

Hi! I'm Miki, iI'm Italian and I will be moving in Norwalk by mid Feb 2008.
Big adventure for me!

My office is in Norwalk and I'm looking for a nice apartment to rent....

I found something nice and waterfront for 2.200$ per month....A bit expensive but a guess this is the average price for houses in the area....

Not having a family with me I prefer a house not isolated....aside Norwalk, any suggestions?

It will be great if someone can give me a hand replying to some of my questions...I really need it!

Average cost for liability insurance cost for a rent car and snow removal cost...

Monthly rent for a car (SUV) or average cost to buy a good car but 2nd hand.

Many thanks for any reply I will get...
Looking forward to hear from you.
Miki

I live in Assisi and am considering moving back to the US in the next year or two. I am thinking CT too.

You might look at craigslist classifieds: jobs, housing, personals, for sale, services, community, events, forums for apartments and cars.

Before you leave Italy, you should get a letter from your car insurance people showing your claim record for the last three years. Note GEICO sells auto insurance world wide.

Hi Bob,
thanks a lot! Nobody told me before about the paper I need from my insurance.

I'm a bit worried for the general cost of leaving in CT, I hope I will manage to get a good package from the Company.

Hope to hear from you again and enjoy Assisi, I love it.

Miki

The letter from your insurer is not required, but it can get you a substantial discount on insurance. When I moved to Italy, the insurer TORO has no record of my driving so they assigned me to the highest risk group with drunk drivers.

Rent is about the same as here. But you only need a 1 bedroom, so 2200 should get you something nice. Gas is about 1/3. Check out the craigslist for idea on costs for cars and housing. Generally, prices are a bit cheaper in the US because of the exchange. Who are you working for? Where are you now?

I'd like to have 2 bedrooms, one for future guests, and to be waterfront...so maybe this is the reason the price requested is higher then expected.

I work for an international company in the IT for maritime and oil&gas companies, we produce and sell softwares.

I'm in Cyprus at the moment, I've been leaving here for 1 year here.

I'm checking now the web site you suggested...thanks!

And you? What you do there in Assisi?

Just raising the Bambini. There seems to be a big price difference between furnished and unfurnished. Remember, there is Ikea and other economical ways to furnish your own in CT than here in Italy. Good luck.

Hi Miki - welcone to Connecticut. I would suggest looking for an apartment in Norwalk itself. There are many nice apartment and condo complexes within your price range there. You might want to consider looking in South Norwalk which is a small urban village with small shops and restaurants. A lot of young professionals rent there. Hope this helps, Jay

Hi Jay,

I'm in contact with an agent and I'm scanning all possible web site to see all the apartments available on the market in Norwalk.
I saw a couple that I like near the sea (waterfront), will see.

Do you know the average price for liability insurance house cost and snow removal?

I'm negotiating my package now with my Company and it will be very useful to know the tax average in Norwalk.... Any idea?

Thanks in advance....

Hi Miki,

I live in Norwalk.

You wont need liability ins for a house unless you buy one. Auto ins varies alot depending on the value of the car & the coverage you want.

Snow removal is something you likely won't need to worry about either as a renter.

Theres alot available. I'd steer you more towards East Norwalk if youwant something on the water. Theres several condominiums right on the water that I'd think you could find a rental & many multi family homes.
Rents will be all over but $2000 should be more than enough for a small apt.

Not sure what you want to know about taxes, again, as a renter you wont be paying property taxes.

Hope this was at least a little helpful.
