I don't know the answer to that. But I would presume that a privately operated toll on a interstate highway would probably not be allowed.

Aren't there already tolls on privatized highways already.

State could just privatize and add tolls to 95 from NY Border to New Haven.

State would ensure during the Winter road is clear and share partial maintenance responsibilities of the roadway.

We already have examples of privatized roads that didn't work because they couldn't raise enough money.
Indiana toll road and one in Texas. The one in Texas actually has an 85mph speed limit, but even that isn't enough to entice people to use it.

One of the benefits of having 50 states is we can learn from other states what works or doesn't work. Privatized roads do not work. No reason to repeat the experiment in CT.

IF we are going to have tolls in CT they need to be state owned and operated. The privateers and wall street can **** off.

The majority of privatized tolls roads in the US are state roads. AFAIK, the only privately operated interstates are the Indiana Toll Road and the Chicago Skyway - both of which were toll roads originally. I don't know if the Feds would allow CT to add tolls and then privatize the road as the allowing of tolls requires all funding to be directed toward that road.

The Feds have approved tolls for I-95 from New Haven to New York and I-84 west of Hartford as part of major reconstruction projects. Who knows what they will do if the state wants to implement tolls across the state. They did approve Rhode Island’s plan to toll trucks on their interstate highways so it seems they are open to innovative funding options. Jay

I know that CT is on a list of a few states that can implement a Value Pricing Pilot program (congestion tolling) and like the RI tolling program, the money has to be used to build the tolls lanes or maintain that road. So tolls on I95 cannot be used to pay for repairs of I91 or I84. Now tolls on CT15 can be used anywhere.

So driving through MA, NH, and ME don't believe tolls could exist in CT. The one difference was there was another highway or route instead of using the toll road. The tolls were mostly in the States most populated and probably heavy traffic flow areas.

You do realize that Connecticut had tolls up until about 30 years ago. I see no reason why they could not return. Jay

Could only see tolls probably from the NY Border to New Have. Just electronic gantries on the off ramps. Because commuters have the Merritt, Route 1, and public transportation. Also it is a heavy traffic flow area.
