I'm putting CT as a consideration to relocate to.
I do have a car but just incase in a pinch my car gives me trouble or becomes permanently disabled - this is why I want to know.
I don't have a beginning nor destination point but wanting to know if anyone goes to work this way if they don't want to drive.

Let me break it down just a tad for what I'm seeking:

In Fairfield County on the whole and in the cities and towns a 15 mile radius from Hartford.

Thanks so much!

There is bus service to and from Hartford. A friend of mine lives in Bristol and rode the bus to downtown Hartford on a daily basis. Mass transit, as a whole, is very fragmented. Waterbury and New Britain have limited bus service. The Connecticut shoreline benefits by having Metro North - New Haven line that goes to Grand Central Terminal. It isn't as useful if you are making a commute, say from New Haven to Milford, unless your destination is within walking distance.

I agree with Rich Lee. Metro North is useful, but limited depending how far your work is from the RR station, train service in Fairfield County (then there is Shoreline East which runs east of New Haven).

CT Transit runs many buses to and from Hartford. Even sleepy bedroom communities like Colchester, Marlborough, etc. have express buses that run from commuter lots directly to Hartford where they do a big loop in the city. Just about any Hartford suburb will have bus service available, and many people use it. There are also some private commuter bus services, but I am not familiar with those (I know of one that runs from Torrington all the way to Hartford).

Easy Street is the name of a van pool used in CT. You can meet up with people going the same direction as you from a commuter parking lot and drive in together in a van provided.
