Default Paradise Green section of Stratford?

I know I have read that some sections of Stratford are iffy but what about the Paradise Green section? I was looking into Fairfield but it seems I can get more for my money in Stratford. Also, can anyone tell me what a Metro North commute to NYC(upper west side) would be like to Fairfield,Trumbull or Stratford? Thanks ...

Use the Metro North schedule for a good reference.

Paradise Green is one of the outstanding neighborhoods of Stratford. Most of it is like a mini-Shaker Heights, a planned community from the twenties built around Longbrook Park, with highly distinctive tudor and colonial revival homes on managable lots. There is a strong sense of community and little in the way of run-down houses or crime. The park itself has playgrounds, little league field, lots of period stone walls and old oak trees, and Brewster Pond with its flock of ornery geese. There is good neighborhood shopping (outstanding pizza and Chinese restaurants) and the train station is an easy ten-minute walk down Main Street. An express train gets you into Grand Central in one hour and 12 minutes, the perfect amount of time required to read the New York Times in depth every day.

Acornsower, I'll second that info, I have lived in Stratford for almost 35 years. I live off North Ave and we love walking to the green in the summertime. Even Stratford center(right near the train station) has quite a few restraunts to eat at.....I love Acapulcos!!

Thank you all for the info! That makes me feel much better because all the homes I love are in that part of town. I forgot to ask about the schools there ...does anyone have kids in the Stratford schools? Italian guy thanks for the Metro North link!

We lived in Stratford until about 18mos ago, when my girls were in 2nd and 5th grades. We had friends wtih kids of all ages and pretty much everyone was mostly satisfied with the schools. We had not planned on leaving CT, I grew up there, much in Stratford, and we lived there with our kids for 14yrs. Anyhow, sure there are issues with the schools, but they were minor. The schools you would be zoned for in the immediate Paradise Green area are good, an excellent elementary school, and then Wooster middle and Stratford High. The middle and high schools are sometimes considered the less desireable (there are only 2 of each in town) but, again, I had neighbors whose kids went there and they were very pleased with the education.

Default Stratford...great growing up in

Grew up and lived in Stratford ....went to all the schooling from Eli Whitney to Wooster Junior High to Bunnell High School. Great education, Paradise Green was the place to walk to as a kid living in the area off Huntington Rd. You can't go wrong living there....Good luck with your new home. Definitely going to make my way back to Connecticut!!!

Thanks for the input...what about the middle and high schools would be less than desireable?

Bunnell scores better on the Connecticut Academic Performance Tests than Stratford High does. I would think both have about the same curriculum offered though. Jay

I'm pretty sure most, if not all, of the Paradise Green area is zoned for Bunnell High School. Once you have a potential address, you should contact the Stratford Public Schools administrative office to confirm. I've provided a link below to the website:

Stratford Public Schools - Stratford, Connecticut 06615

I lived in Stratford the first 34 years of my life before moving to NC for a job transfer 2 years ago. There are a lot of nice things about NC, but I do miss Stratford every now and then. It's a great place to raise a family and probably the most affordable place to live in Fairfield county outside the major cities.
