The reason was because the cold front pushed off the coast (which is weird to see so fast!) so all the convection was off shore, not over land.

I think people forget we don't usually get state to state, region wide, widespread 2"+ precip. (When was the last time?) So its a matter of where you are and the setup which can change last minute like this front going off shore.

BTW .. Euro caught onto it first yesterday

And Again...More Grass/Garden type rains (Not Tree Type)

Precip forecast today through Sunday 8pm

Surface Map

NWS NY

Quote:

Weak high pressure will remain over the region Saturday morning,
resulting in a dry Saturday morning. Models have trended quicker
with the next approaching shortwave, which may trigger scattered
showers and thunderstorms as early as Saturday afternoon. Eastern
LI and SE CT may be able to remain dry most of the day. Highs
also will be near seasonable levels.

Model trends over the past 24 hours have sped up the weekend
system with pcpn moving in during the day Sat. The shortwave is
lagging behind the RRQ of a 65kt upper jet...but could have decent
warm rain processes with PW`s around 2 inches.
However...the GFS

looks suspicious aloft between 00z and 12z developing a coupled
vort max/min in the mid levels thus enhancing pcpn total at the
sfc. So...while there will likely be overrunning Sat night with a
frontal boundary to our south...the best dynamics associated with
the shortwave appear to pass to the N on Sun with the majority of
the rainfall likely remaining to our N with areas N and W of NYC
having the best chance to see pcpn.

A few weak waves of low pres
does develop along the boundary Sun and Sun night...but they look
to pass too far S to have any real impact on the region.

Ummmm, you might want to take a look... W....T....F?! Might as well go for broke now.

With the front moving faster than thought the clearing and sun was able to come out and BOOOM.... NUMBER 9

Today now makes 9 in a row! Only 1 yr since 1905 had more consecutive days hitting 90°+ than this year in Hartford..

Another Hot Muggy Day out there. This July gave me Agita

Close up look at the rainfall totals per radar estimate. You can see how SWCT benefited while rest of state got screwed. Lower Westchester as well. South shore of Long Island got soaked.

NWS NY Rain Total amounts

Danbury: 0.26"
Bridgeport: 0.40"

8:30pm someone driving along the Merritt or I-95 in Westport crossed through a heavy shower. Nobody will know about it unless you were under it. Not a big area of rain. Dry in New Canaan, Dry in Stratford

so tomorrow AM is good for FFLD county... but no good early afternoon? Thinking about a boat trip from greenwich to norwalk for lunch, a little island time and then back to greenwich... but not going to do it if storms will pop up.

Keep radar handy. They will be isolated but could pop up anywhere in afternoon. Its nice when they form elsewhere. Gives you time to prepare as you watch it get closer

Morning should be good!
