Question Property taxes in Stamford?

Here's an example of a house that I'd be interested in a few years, located in Stamford (commuting to NYC). Is the amount listed as the estimated taxes correct? It indicates that property taxes on a home like this in Stamford run about $9,000/year. Is that correct?

That seems a bit high for Stamford, for the most part, but yes it's probably correct. I own a 1,600 sq ft "cape cod" home in Stamford, and our taxes are only $3877 per year. But obviously with this home, there is much more square footage--plus it could be close to the water or in an exclusive subdivision.
We are in a quiet area in the middle of the city (the Bull's Head region). North Stamford and homes on the water are much higher, typically, in terms of taxes. On the whole, property taxes in Stamford are not that expensive, as compared to Westchester, Long Island, or Greenwich.

Do you feel that is high? That is a pretty nice home and at over $700k I would expect you to pay that amount or more. If you really want to see high taxes, check out comparable homes in Westchester or Long Island. Taxes really are high in some towns there. Jay

Actually $9,000 a year seems 'average' for the NYC metro area. Stamford really isn't part of CT (Fairfield Cty & the rest of CT are totally different) but really a wealthy NYC suburb like Southeastern Westchester where the property taxes are just as outrageous. People will gladly pay whatever to be in the right town especially those who don't have children.

House prices are just as outrageous as is electricity, oil heat & the monthly metro north fare. Even now, realtors think that the outrageous price gains in the last few years along with the outrageous property taxes can be sustained because this part of the country is considered 'special' and because everyone is making somewhere in the six or seven figures.

BTW, how much will condo fees (HOA) and property taxes be on all those 1 million dollar condos going up in downtown stamford??
