East Granby - airplane noise?
We are relocating from CA and really like the sound of East Granby, the only concern is the airport nearby. Its really close to Bradley Airport and we are looking for any advice re the noise from the airplanes.
Thanks

BDF is about about 1.5 miles away to the east from the center of town located at the junction of route 20 & 187- the Main terminal a bit further- about 2.5 miles.
The Airport is a medium hub-I knew we had another member who said there was not much in the way of noise from the Airfield- I also saw a news program on local TV about some residents complaining the street their homes where located was not included in the State DEP's decibel limit, with regards to the allowable limits of Aircraft noise.
Perhaps others residing in the nearby towns of Granby, East Granby, Windsor Locks, and Suffield can provide input.

I lived in EG for 5 years right under the flight path of Bradley. Yes, there is quite a lot of airplane noise. After a time you get used to turning the TV up when a plane goes over and then back down to normal. A friend came to stay with us once and couldn't sleep becasuse of the noise whereas the rest of us were used to it.
You are wise to take it into consideration, IMO.

I was just up that way doing some work and was shocked it wasn't as loud as I thought...Actually, it really cheesed me off because I live on a 1000' high ridge in Manchester and the noise here, 20 something miles away, for incoming planes is actually louder!
I've called and complained and they basically said that because I'm on the ridge, the plane is still "technically" at an acceptable altitude...just not to me.
Whatever.

EG is a very, very small town -- there are only a handful of traffic lights and not even a grocery store! The library is pretty good, but there isn't a town playground, there isn't much for family activities. I was a teenager when we lived there (and I worked in the only grocery store that was there!), but we always went to other towns to do anything. It is quiet and safe, but if you want things to do with your children, you will be going elsewhere.

Thank you to everyone for there help and advice, we have discussed it and decided to go for it. From what I have read on here and other sources, East Granby is a nice little town and the noise issue i'm sure we could live with as long as the town is safe and freindly.
Thanks again.

Before you finalize your decision on East Granby, I would seriously consider Granby, a great town only a few miles further to the west on Rte 20. We moved here almost 3 years ago and have 3 children..ages 8/10/12. The schools are great, and oddly, we have bumped into several families who moved here from East Granby seeking a larger town with more services, and excellent schools (not saying that schools in East Granby are not good). Granby is the next town west of East Granby, and since we are over the Metacomet Ridge, the noise level from planes is not a factor. We have 2 supermarkets in town, a real downtown (unlike East Granby), and a TJmax. Also, point of clarification - East Granby and Granby are indeed 2 separate towns with separate schools.

We are looking at East Granby as we are looking to purchase one of the new homes that's being built there. We're aware that East Granby does not have a dowtown and thats not a problem for us as we won't be restricting ourselves to only living in East Granby, there are alot of towns close bye that offer what we want.
We have also done alot of research on alot of towns in CT and are aware that Granby and East Granby and are too different towns, hence the title of the OP 'East Granby' not 'Granby'.
