I moved to Hamden to my first house in 2010. Taxes have gone up more than once since then. That and the Dixwell Ave area where all the stores are, is just off putting. The way people act, the traffic at times, the poor customer service in many of the stores or restaurants. If you can, I'd look else where. I wish I had waited and not rushed into this house for multiple reasons.

It's further toward the town center than me (I'm on the other side of the Fairground) on a side-road. Also right next to Rte 5, which is the commercial area (Washington Avenue near Dunkin Donuts and the shopping center that has Sav-Rite Liquors in it), but it's a pretty nice looking house from the outside. It's on Monroe, here:

So if you lived there you could walk to Stop & Shop (3 city blocks away), and you could walk with your kids to the park on Blakeslee, which is 1 block away. It's around 5 block's worth of distance from the North Haven Fairground too (less than 1/2 mile).

It's an older home, and it's at the very top of your budget, plus you'd have to pay utilities and maintain the yard as part of the rental agreement. It doesn't mention about pets, so you'd have to check on that.

That is a nice place and the location is very good. Jay

If it's available, you'll want to make an appointment ASAP to see it and make sure it's in as good condition as the photos imply. Older homes sometimes have older wiring. But if I remember correctly, this particular house was once owned by a couple of older sisters, and the house caught on fire, and was gutted and redone from the inside out around 15 years ago. If that's the case, then it'll be in better shape than the age of the home might indicate. I might be thinking of a house on a different street in the same area though. If it's "that house" then we looked at it when we were moving to North Haven, but beloved spouse was adamant about not having to climb stairs every day so we ended up in ranch on Pool Road (and we have a basement with his man-cave in it, that he has to climb down the stairs to get to every day, hahah!)

Just wanted to drop in and say thanks! I put in an app on the Monroe property (which was nice!) but ended up taking a place in Wallingford. Thank you again.
