Here is just a quick comparison of two nice towns and houses that are in them. Housing is DOUBLE the cost (or half the house) here over nice comparable towns in Texas...and you dont have to pay for taxes on your car or income tax!

The income level is about the same. Check public information of teachers salaries.

I have a small business here and the economy is stagnent...most of my business is done outside the state!

Anyway, when buying a home, I would rather have spacious than cute...especially when it costs more!

This is current and fact.

But what is the point? We know its cheaper in other places..doesn't make it better. Take it from me, I moved to Charlotte and have a brand new lovely home for under 200k. Guess what..I miss New England and will be back there soon enough. I dont want to make this sound like I hate Charlotte, but we moved to afford a house and that is not a sufficient reason to move.

Texas=

Poor schools, some of the worst pollution in the country, quality of life factors? Texas rates in the lower quarter of all states, Connecticut top 5 states. Texas has Poor library services, poor services for the elderly, high crime rate- non existent hate crime laws, infant mortality rate among the nations highest. Texas has the highest percentage of people with no health care coverage- yep its a great place to live. As far as income being the 'same' NO.

You may pay more here- but it is safer, cleaner and more people oriented- Texas is for many reasons has a lower quality of life.

Last time I checked you could buy a house in Connecticut (Hartford, Tolland, Middlesex, New London and Windham counties) for less than 300k, have good schools, low crime, green grass, mountains, ocean, Cap Cod and a actual backyard without being on top of your neighboors! All this and less than 2 hours from New York and Boston and less than 4 hours from Philly.

What does Texas get you? Dallas and Houston? Give me a break!

Easy, killers. I'm from Texas. Every place has good and bad things about it.

I would rather live in CT than any other state in the country no matter how "affordable" it was elsewhere. Why live in a house that's 5000sq ft with too many rooms and that looks like every other house on the street in the middle of suburbia just cause it's less expensive than a two bedroom condo that's in walking distance to WH Center...for example!!

You are right, every place does have good and bad. There is no way the good in Texas outweigh the good in Connecticut. No way!

I would love to live in some areas of Texas, but at the same time there are several towns in Connecticut that I like. But the two states are vastly different, it's like comparing apples to oranges.
