Day Trip: Best Oceanfront/Waterfront town to visit in CT

Hello!

I have been in the NYC area for many years but have never visited the oceanfront areas of CT.

I understand there are cities/towns in CT that are on the Atlantic Ocean front, some even with great views of New York.

My wife and I would like to take day trips this weekend - Saturday and Sunday, possibly even Monday to explore these areas.

What cities/towns do you suggest we visit?

Any other tips and suggestions on where to go, what to see, what to do would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much and best wishes for a great weekend to all.
Have to warn you, beaches here tend to be small and crowded with locals this time of year. But if you're looking for the Connecticut waterfront experience, definitely eastern CT. Mystic is the tourist town, Mystic Seaport, Aquarium, Mystic Village (shopping village), or downtown Old Mystic which is rustic and right along the Mystic River, and some local beaches (check out Bluff Point State Park, actually in Groton). Groton/New London is full of colonial history, and nice waterfront views and restaurants, and the National submarine memorial next to the sub base where you can go on the Nautilus which was the first nuclear powered sub. Getting here? You could shoot up I-95, or if you really want that nautical experience, drive to Orient Point, LI and take the ferry to New London. Finally, I should mention, for some night life, Mohegan Sun Casino and Foxwoods Casino are less than 30 minutes from the shore.
