Now, NJ, that's not a jealousy thing, we just hate NJ because it sucks. objectively speaking, of course

It sounds like the "board room" guys wife left him for some FFC yuppie with a Maserati and now he's is a bitter and broken man. It's definitely not a "NY" thing.
This!! Lol! I was so excited when I first moved to Danbury 20 years ago, because it was once mentioned in a Seinfeld episode as the place where Elaine's friend got Lyme disease. It was the first time I ever heard of Danbury, and then I actually wound up moving there. Haha.

Seriously though, your average NYer knows absolutely nothing about CT other than there are some very wealthy people living there, but in my experience it was never viewed as a negative at all. They're not bothered by it and really don't care much.

The rivalry between NY and NJ on the other hand -- that's real for sure, and I would never have considered moving there! Lol! Jk

LI? Liberal. You must be kidding.

I don't think the word liberal means what you think it means.

LI is a very high income area. Why do you hate the rich?

My neighbor went to Fenway Park this weekend and she saw this sign lol. You know another place hates you when they put up a billboard. At least no one has a sign that says "CT ****s" so we can't be that bad.

Here's why a New York 'dot-sucks' billboard went up near Fenway Park - Boston Business Journal

I'm originally from Jersey but my grandmother once lived in Hartford and I would spend some time there during the summers. I'm obviously no expert on CT but if I may I'd like to offer an opinion.

I think one of the problems with media depiction of Connecticut is the lack of national celebrity presence. There aren't a lot of famous people that you can look at and immediately tie in their personality with being from CT the way you can a Robert Deniro or Woody Allen with NY, a Mark Wahlberg or Matt Damon with Boston, or even a Bruce Springsteen or Frank Sinatra with NJ. Those names are associated with being the "quintessential" guys from those respective places. Unfortunately CT has never had that.

Another problem, as it's been previously stated by others, is that posh, country club, well-to-do reputation that CT has gotten over the years. Largely due to FFC being home to so many Wall St types the entire state has somehow developed this image as a playground for the fabulously wealthy. Although not the worst reputation to have it certainly doesn't reflect the very blue collar, working class nature of the state as a whole.

Actually there are some very nice parts of New Jersey like northern Bergen County, Morris County, Hunterdon County and Somerset County. The shore has some really nice areas as well. Even in the more dense areas, there are some wonderful towns. It is not all what you see from the Jersey Turnpike you know. Jay

Majority of NJ is nice. It's called the Garden State for a reason. Most people only think of the industrial areas closest to NY.

Per the popular stereotype passed down by those I've meet in Manhattan you are still a bridge & tunnel person. Queens still ranks higher than New Jersey

There are some very nice residential areas a bit north of the GW bridge. Transportation without a personal vehicle is lacking up that way so it has remained less developed than most much of the Bergen & Hudson region. To respond to the earlier poster NJ is exactly the retreat from NYC some haters make it out to be. One of the new developments near my Jersey City office is a doorman luxury tower with rents starting around $2100 for a studio. The one big advantage for single urban dwellers of my kind is NJ is significantly cheaper than living alone in NYC.

Tying this back to Connecticut I'd say the states appeal is big on the ability to buy into the old fashioned American dream of a attached garage house, green lawn, golden retriever, and decent school system all while being connected to jobs in NYC. This is also a stereotype I've heard about Connecticut!

I take the subway just like most Manhattanites to get to my job, but i dont really care for people that act elitist anyway. Are you living in NJ and commuting into Manhattan? I hear a lot about people moving from NYC to NJ when they are ready to settle down and move to the burbs, not as much about CT but may also be that I dont work with a lot of really wealthy coworkers, not that NJ is cheap by any means.

And to talk of Jay's point, NJ does have a lot of nice areas, people seem to think Jersey shore/ Seaside heights = all of NJ.

There's a lot of bad news in CT, but mostly thst is from the news. You know it hit the fan when you hear CT dropped on major newscast.
