Default Avon-Craigmore Circle & Briarcliff Swim Club

We are looking at a home in Avon near Briarcliff Swim Club (on Secret Lake) and I was wondering if anyone had any input about the swim club and its recreational activities it offers (kayaking/canoeing/swim lessons, etc.)?

The subdivision of homes was built around the early 60' and looks like it was very well planned out - level yards & spacious properties. Any input would be great to have.

Thanks!

Hi,
I live on the other side of Secret Lake and we actually checked out the Swin Club. It seems nice enough but just wasn't worth it for us with 2 small children when we could walk down to the lake and swim for free (ok, so our kids swim and then come home quickly and shower!! But thats a whole other story). the area is nice on both sides of the lake and very scenic. I don't know if they have swimming lessons or anyhitng like that, but they have a playground for kids there too. Lake rights are "free" - well you have yearly dues for the lake. But as far as I know you need to have your own canoe or kayak - and there is a storage fee for you to keep them by the lake. Hope that helps...let me know if you have any other questions or PM me.

Great thanks for the information! We don't have children yet but I am thinking long term. My husband and I would use the swimmming pool to do laps in the summer so the club seems like a nice thing to have that close by. Also, the idea of canoeing or kayaking is nice too. I like the neighborhood alot from what I am seeing thus far in our house hunt. We are still looking at some other homes in Avon but this neighborhood (craigmore circle/brentwood drive area) is something that seems perfect for us.

thanks!

Hi there,

I'm on the board of directors for the swim club and can offer some information for the 2008 season:

The Briarcliff Swim Club is a not-for-profit community club run by volunteers from it's membership. The annual membership cost is $495 (for family) or $375 (for adults with children under 3 or over 18 in the same household) and includes:
--access to a new heated inground lap pool open until 9PM each night (open from Memorial Day to Labor Day).
--memership includes free swim lessons
--bath house with kitchenette and showers
--sand volleyball
--basketball
--fenced children's play area with BBQ area
--year-round access to private Secret Lake (where you can canoe, kayak, fish, ice skate-but you provide your own equipment)
--boat storage ($25 for the year?)

Secret Lake is private so unless you a) own on the lake or b) pay membership to the Briarcliff Swim Club, the Secret Lake Association, or one other private lake club (the name escapes me at the moment), you are trespassing if you use the lake.

Please let me know if you have any other questions at klehnus@juno.com or call 860-673-0230

Thanks, and hope to see you pool side!
Kathy
