Is the job near a train station? If so, it opens up some opportunities in less expensive towns like Shelton and Milford.

You could also live in a town like Bethel, you'll probably have a 45-1hr commute by car. Commutes are longer in the NYC region. It may just be something you have to live with.

Excellent schools + very close to Stamford and you better be making $200k+ a year MINIMUM.

The location is really close to Chelsea Piers Connecticut. I think there are trains, but probably take another bus or walk a bit to get to CPC.

If it's the same complex as NBC Sports, I believe they have a shuttle.

Again, longer commutes are a reality in this area.

As others have said I highly doubt they offer enough to maintain the same quality of life. I would be looking for other opportunities locally.

Let's say they give him a 25% bump and offer 100k. Sounds great for most parts of the country but trust us, it's not great for Stamford area.

what suburb of Miami are you living in?

Comparing Stamford, CT to Coral Gables, FL and you come out with Coral Gables as being higher priced by 14% Ridgefield, CT comes out 6.4% higher than Coral Gables, and it's hard to beat Ridgefield for school quality or safety.

Granted, Westport comes out nearly double, and I didn't bother with Greenwich, New Canaan or Darien. And, I'm sure there are other nice Miami suburbs that are cheaper than Coral Gables, but the OP did say she lived in an upscale area with excellent schools.

Doing the high level tax math... to rent an ok (not fancy - think raised ranch or cape) 3br/2ba in a place like Bethel or Trumbull with 2 kids and a single income, the magic # is between $115K-$125K gross.

You would do well with that salary in Trumbull. You would not be living the "high life" but you would have a comfortable middle class lifestyle with some niceties thrown in for yourself and kids.

The median HH income in Bethel is $73,257. I bet you could have a good lifestyle on a lot less there. I am guessing $100,000 would give you a very good lifestyle in Bethel but as I know in Trumbull it is more like the middle class watching your pennies. The house values in Bethel are $278,291 while the house values in Trumbull are $398,309. The rents much be much more reasonable there.

I thought Bethel was just as much as Trumbull. Bethel looks like a good place. I don't think the commute is much different than Trumbull either. Maybe a little longer but I am not sure.

It's not just the income level. It's also the accumulated net worth that allows for a big enough down payment on a house in a given town. If you arrived in FFC with a $100K income but not much for a down payment you'd be stretched thin even in the least expensive part of the county.

The op is looking to rent a house not buy one. But I do agree with what you are saying about buying a house on that income.
