Actually this is a national trend. They are called Lifestyle Centers and are modeled after the old fashioned downtown area with on-street parking in front of the stores and large open parking lots to the back. In some parts of the country indoor malls have been converted to this type of set up. Not certain I agree with it but that is the trend. Jay

Do you mean like Evergreen in South Windsor? (I rarely shop and really only go there for Apple)

Yes, Smooth21 had Evergreen Walk in South Windsor on their list. Jay

Just took a look at the proposed map kind of shocked how large they are planning for it to be.

I truly don't see this being a huge success. Westfarms is too close, and already has an established reputation, despite the fact that this is different, it's still shopping.

The whole "Lifestyle Center" concept is a joke. Fake downtowns dedicated solely to conspicuous consumption, all just to recreate the mall as an authentic walk down memory lane. How sad that this is what our communities are being reduced to, as if this is all they can be. I'm sure this, too, will be given the pretentious accreditation of "The Shoppes at (fill in the blank)". I'll be spending my time (and money) elsewhere, thank you.

Just because something is trendy doesn't mean a good idea. I'm sure that in 1983 everyone thought legwarmers and Jordache jeans with a brush in the back pocket seemed trendy.

Wow, the shovels from the groundbreaking are barely put away. Looks like there is a shortfall in the outlet centers finacing. They need another $10 million. Not sure if this is the end but it just may be. Too bad, it would have been a nice addition to the region. Then again it opens up more land for Amazon to build on. . Jay

Hopefully Waterbury will be the next location with an Outlet Mall. Maybe on the Freight Street area.
