I'm kind of surprised the OP doesn't know of Greenwich, it's only 15 miles from the Bronx (yeah, a "world away" but I grew up bordering the Bronx and I've long heard of it....).

St, Roche Avenue is ghetto? It may be modest by Greenwich standards but it is not even close to being ghetto. Same for Byram Road. Just older, more modest homes on small lots. I had family that lived in the public housing in Greenwich. It is hardly ghetto by any stretch of the imagination. It was mostly public service employees, service employees, elderly and single parent families. There are no major issues there like is found in a typical urban ghetto. Not even close. Jay

A safe, mostly upper middle class neighborhood with some older, more modest homes is "ghetto"? OK...

I never been to Greenwich once got off by accident at the station, but really never been there. Should I make a CT day trip?

You might find the downtown area interesting to walk around if you like a lot of upscale shops. Jay

Yes, especially great during the holiday season, get off the train and just walk up Greenwich Ave. If you have kids, there is a garden shop there that has a Santa photo op and real reindeer.

Greenwich Ave is nice to walk around. Drive around the "Golden Triangle": North Street, Lake Ave, Round Hill Round for some mansion ogling. The Concours D'Elegance show is nice if you like cars, and it's in a nice park by the water.
