Welcome to Connecticut !

Stratford is medium size middle class town located in eastern edge of Fairfield County. Lordship is in southern section of Stratford which is by the water long island sound.

Lordship is a nice neighborhood with a real community feel to it. There are a lot of empty nesters, families with kids, a real mixture. It is well kept, quiet, and you may even find turkeys in your garden once in a while early in the morning. The beach is just okay which is shore beach. The only downside to it is that the mosquitoes near saddles, due to the marshes during the summer time. Couple miles away there Walmart, Home Depot, Dock Shopping center. You get to choose between Trumbull and Milford Mall which is all in 10-20 mins distance in term of driving.

There is a train station on Main Street in Stratford which take to Manhattan, New York City or New Haven Union Station.

Owned a condo in the area. Nice area. Not fully developed yet as far as retail but last time I was there there was many land for sale signs so not sure if things were built since on that main road off I-95. Quiet friendly community. Just watch for flood zones. There were many low lying flooding areas around there.

Just drove down with Goog Earth... memories..

You may hear helicopters and small planes in the distance due to Sikorsky sometimes.

It's a nice part of Stratford. It's true you'll hear airport traffic.

I would have a tough time choosing that over a coastal section of Milford. Yes, the home prices are a little higher, but taxes are significantly lower which makes up for the price discrepancy, better resale, better ranked schools.

But there's nothing wrong with Lordship.

I know people that live in Lordship and love it. Only problem there seems to be proximity to Sikorsky Airport and maybe some bugs from the marshlands. Because of this it is probably the most affordable suburban waterfront neighborhood in Fairfield County. Jay

Lordship is nice, but there's been a lot of discontent over the changing flood zone areas due to revision of the 100 year flood plain (I think - we didn't live in the Lordship area when we were in Stratford, but I heard this from a lot of people). I would just use caution in regard to that, as was already mentioned.

The revision of flood zones is that due to SANDY and if so are houses supposed to be raised above flood stage?
Usually I think that is 9 feet above sea level?
I know in some areas many of the houses are being raised like in Old Saybrook.
Thanks all!

Great location. The beach looks fantastic and if you have small kids or like planes, you could spend hours watching them come in. There's the occassional wheels hitting fence but if that doesn't bother you, you're good.
