We are considering a move to Westport from southern westchester where the cost of living is killing us.
Where we live each "area"(determined by the elementary school)has a different Vibe. Only after moving, did I come to learn that we should have tried to live in a different area.
I don't want that to happen again.
Would some one be willing to give a candid and frank description of the different schools/area? Don't worry about being PC, I can take it!
Thank you in advance for any help,

I don't know specific areas in Westport, but many CT towns in that area have average home prices of over a million dollars. With that comes competition and pretentiousness but also great town amenities and top notch schools. It depends what you want in a town. Do you prefer a large middle class presence? If so, maybe look into Fairfield town. Do you want cheap housing? Northern parts of the county will be half the cost of southern parts. House prices in the Westport area probably won't be much cheaper than your Harrison, Rye or Mamaroneck - but property taxes sure will.

If you give more information on your needs and desires, I can probably make a better recommendation. Coastal or inland, urban/suburban/rural, good schools, work commute?

The Hunt Club, Old Hill, Coleytown areas are considered a nick above Saugatuck and Gerens Farms (unless you're on beachside ave).

What is the area you liked in Westchester? That might be helpful to know for drawing and comparisons

maybe true for old hill, not sure about hunt club and coleytown. Hunt Club and Coleytown looks removed from the town center and Im not sure if its something current buyers want. They do seem to enjoy bigger land thats for sure.

Beachside, Compo, and Saugatuck Shores for beautiful coastal living, in addition to the areas previously mentioned.

I actually do not like Old Hill as much as others. The area of cross hwy/north below the merritt is really nice. And yes, hunt club/coleytown are further away from downtown, but have very nice neighborhoods on 2+ acres with multi-million dollar homes.

Old Hill is pristine. The beautiful homes and quiet secluded thicker forestry, yet still convenient to everything. You go to that Earthplace place and feel like your in Litchfield.

Welcome to Connecticut !

Westport is affluent town located in Fairfield County which is in western part of the state It is most expensive area in the state and top 15 in the country. Westport home prices is not that much different than Harrison, Mamaroneck, Larchmont, Pelham, Rye etc but property taxes sure is. Schools are good in Westport nothing to worry about.

I recommend Fairfield, Trumbull, Shelton if cost of living biting your check.
