anyone know this? i seem to remember the library was not always at the current site?

The Library on Main Street? It has been there since the 1950's I believe. Not sure where it was before that.

Are you thinking of the old Post office which is now the Willimantic Brewing company? That is a very nice old building that was refurbished about 10 years back into the Brewery.
