Hey i'm new here and i was raised in Bridgeport, then moved to Waterbury in 06, then decided to up and leave everything to move to Atlanta(gwinnett county) feb. 07. because i was sick of the cold weather. I had family there so they gave me shelter til I found a job. I loved it at first. the weather was perfect(not too hot, not too cold), and then summer came
. I never felt more suicidal in my life. There is nothing worse than sitting in traffic on the 85 heading downtown with a broken a/c on a hot summer day. Atleast in ct you can roll the window down and feel somewhat of a breeze. Being in Georgia made me truly appreciate Connecticut but while I was in ga my mom decides to move to Bridgeport because she worked for Bridgeport hospital. So moving(jan08) from clean new subdivisions back to bridgeport was a big change but it was home(family and friends) and overall I'm happy to be back in Connecticut but not in Bridgeport. oh and I'm not talking bout the good part either, I live near east main st.(& boston ave.) and across the street from a crack house (thanks mom lol). I'm def. planning to get my own place soon, maybe in manchester (i'm only 20 btw).sorry 4 da bad grammar, I'm a product of the bridgeport public school system ![]() |

Your experience seems like one many people have gone through in A north to south move.
In what way can we help here? Manchester would be a good alternative to Bridgeport and much less $$$. Good luck! |

Welcome back to CT.
Why leave Bport? It's about a 35 minute drive to NYC, plenty of entertainment options for a 20 year old guy looking for something to do on a Saturday night. Just move to a better neighborhood. |

Bridgeport is way too expensive for the quality of houses, and no matter what anyones says you are still at risk of getting robbed or your house broken into in any part of bridgeport even the good parts(black rock, north end, etc). But I gotta admit the crime did slow down a little bit since being back(maybe cause its winter idk).

Lived in Bridgeport for a time (Clinton Avenue just off Railroad, a couple blocks down from where Railroad intersects with Iranistan)
The natives did say that crime was down substantially from the 1980's due to the crack epidemic slowing, but it was obviously still a very, very dangerous place by comparative standards. Maybe it wasn't the total wild-west it once was, but for all intents and purposes, B'port is a severely blighted ghetto. If you're 20, you have a lot of damn good years in front of you. Take my advice- don't spend them in Bridgeport. It offers all of the very worst aspects of a decaying post-industrial city without any of the redeeming qualities of urban life. |

![]() LOL Just kidding...speaking for myself, and explaining what I agreed to a little bit further I would tell the OP to look at Hartford or New Haven over Bport for "urban living" stuff. I just don't think that Bridgeport has much going on for a "large" CT city. It kind of reminds me of a larger version of New Britain...er, I mean um, ah - I gotta go!. ![]() |

Manchester is a good choice. East Hartford has some up-and-coming affordable areas as well, and is generally a little more affordable than Manchester.
Have you considered Stamford or Norwalk? Lol on the heat. I moved from CT to GA so I know what you're talking about, though I'm sticking around. My dad still lives in Glastonbury and I'm trying to lure him down here. The hottest place I've ever been in metro ATL are the big black asphalt parking lots around the Kennesaw mall. I've seen my car's outdoor thermometer hit 111-113 on regular occasions thanks to all the asphalt, with absolutely no breeze! I find the long spring seasons are the best times to do things in GA. When it hits summer, I usually head up to the mountains or the beaches if I want to do outdoor things so I can get the breezes. Last edited by netdragon; 02-05-2008 at 02:35 PM. |
