Hi, considering a move to Wethersfield (hubby transferred). Any sketchy areas I should stay away from, like any less family oriented sections? What I've seen seems charming, but one friend had a lot of turmoil living in New Britan. Isn't that close? Thanks all.

Wethersfield is great. You're right, it IS a charming town, especially by the cove and the historic district. Closer to Hartford, in the northernmost part of town, it has some urban characteristics as far as being more densely populated and diverse, but not in terms of lack of safety. I have a friend who lives on one such street in that area with her husband and it's fine. Just a little more congested there since the houses are closer to each other. New Britian is about 3 towns away and a whole different world compared to Wethersfield. Don't let that deter you from moving there.

agreed - no safety issues in Wethersfield. And, some of those homes in northern Wethersfield (Ridge Rd) are owned by some fairly wealthy old school Italian families in some big brick homes.

Wethersfield is a wonderful town. I love the charm of Old Wethersfield. It has one of the largest collections of old homes in the country. As others noted there really are no bad neighborhoods. New Britain is not near Wethersfield so you have no worries there. Hartford is directly north of Wethersfield but the city's South End is generally safe so you do not have to worry really. Still if you are concerned, then look for a home that is south of Route 5/15 which is a highway that cuts across the northern section of town. I had friends that lived north of it and had absolutely no problems but if you are still concerned just stay to the south. Good luck, Jay

Thanks everybody. I was pleasantly surprised by the house prices vs value. I was originally thinking Glastonbury, but am temporarily priced out of some neighborhoods there. I've decided to branch out. thanks again.

Priced out of some neighborhoods in Glastonbury? Why does that matter. All of Glastonbury's neighborhoods are good so just pick one you can afford if you like the town. Jay
