Wethersfield schools are very good. There are five elementary schools, one middle schools and one high school that serve the town.

My family is from Wethersfield and I have relatives at Wethersfield High School. Wethersfield has a small town charm that many people dont notice when driving through on the Silas Deane Highway. There are parents walking their kids to bus stops and crossing guards that know all the kids that pass by them on their way to school.

Also the commute into Hartford cant be beat. I-91 can get jam packed from Wethersfield into downtown around 8:15ish in the morning and from downtown to Wethersfield heading home around 5:30ish BUT....

You can easily avoid all the traffic messes by either taking the Silas Deane Highway to Route 5/15 and hopping onto I-91 in downtown or you can take side roads into the city (Wethersfield Ave, Franklin Ave, Maple Ave, depending on where you work) and youll have no problems.

If you're looking for good school systems stay in the Farmington Valley or consider West Hartford. Avoid Bloomfield and Windsor. I don't know about Wethersfield.

Once you know the back roads commutes become less troublesome. I live in West Simsbury and I've rarely had a problem getting into Hartford, or anyplace else. The airport is 25 minutes away as well.

Avon, Simsbury, West Simsbury, Granby and East Granby (which offer reasonable access to the highway and airport), Farmington, West Hartford... all interesting areas. I would avoid Bloomfield and Windsor, but that's me. The realtors would be very happy to sell you something in that area.

I've lived in this area for more than 30 years, and as far as I'm concerned, West Hartford is far and away the best place to live in the Hartford metro region. It has everything: a school system so uniformly excellent that you literally don't have to think twice about what district your house is in, the only truly vibrant walkable town center in the region, fabulous public amenities, a huge and varied stock of single and multi-family housing, some of it quite affordable, , and a 15-minute non-highway commute to Hartford. Why look anywhere else?
