Default Trumbull / Newtown feedback

My husband and I are relocating from Boston, MA and are considering Trumbull. My husband will work in the Shelton area, so we want to live in a town close by.
What are your thoughts on Trumbull? We have a 2 year old and really want to live in a family friendly area. How is the crime? How is the town school system? Are there particular areas to stay away from? particular areas that are better than others?
Anything else I should know?

The other town we are considering is Newtown... any thoughts on all of the above?

Thanks in advance!

bostongirl0725 - Welcome to Connecticut. I am sure you will like it here. Trumbull is a beautiful suburban community with a lot of wonderful neighborhoods. It has excellent schools and a lot of great shopping (including the regions major shopping mall), reatuarant and entertainment options. There is an excellent library and there are a LOT of family activities offered. It will be a great place to raise a family. The only thing Turmbull seems to lack is a traditional walkable "downtown" area. Generally speaking all of Trumbull is good. I would look for homes north of the Merritt Parkway. To the south is Bridgeport and while it is very nice, there is a public housing project on the border off Reservoir Avenue that has some issues.

Newtown is also very nice. It is smaller and more rural than Trumbull but has a lot of nice areas as well. Homes there tend to be a larger lots. The schools are very good but there is less shopping and amenities nearby. You can not go wrong with either town. Jay
