Default single in Avon

I am moving from Upstate, New York to Avon. I am single and was wondering if you could recommend the best places to live nearby. I am an artist and would prefer a more progressive area. Is there anywhere like that in this part of Connecticut?

Avon is a suburban community known for being a family-oriented town. While there are singles in the area, it is not considered a hot-spot. You might consider West Hartford which is the next town over Avon Mountain. Another option is Granby which is a beautiful rural community to the north which has some artists. There is also the Collinsville section of Canton which has a number of artists as well. If you give us a little more of your likes and dislikes (urban, suburban, rural) as well as price information, we can steer you in the right direction. Hope this helps, Jay

If you like a "city" type of feel, Hartford may work for you. I would consider it progressive. Commuting from Hartford out to Avon would work well because you would be commuting the reverse of most of the traffic.

West Hartford may also be a good choice. It has a nice, walkable Center area with lots of outdoor activities in the warmer months. Many of my single friends live in WH and find it's a good town for socialization. They would also say the same of Hartford though.

As Jay mentioned, Collinsville in Canton has a thriving artist community, so that might be an option too. Beautiful scenery on the Farmington River, interesting factory buildings that have been converted to office/retail space. All the shopping amenities you need are 2-3 miles away on Rte 44.

Salisbury CT in the extreme North western part of the state has long been a haven for artists.
