Yup. And considering OP is coming from Texas its going to be a shocker.

That part of the state is beautiful. Away from the congested and fast life. An area with natural oxygen and less pollution. Although Its also an area with more Septic and or Well water living. And area where people will give you the time of day.

However it is an area of many hills which can get icy at times. And yes gets over 4 feet of snow on average each year (Norfolk)

I would say ALL septic and well water . I live in the far reaches of northern FFC, and not a city sewer to be found in my town. It's funny how quickly "rural," or "semi-rural," can happen in our state, especially considering I'm only about 5 miles from Danbury

How far is Manhattan from Hartford? Is there a train that goes into the City you can take from Hartford to Manhattan?

Hartford is about 120 miles from Manhattan. There are Amtrak trains that go from Hartford and stop in Manhattan. They are not considered to be commuter trains and can be expensive. Check Amtrak's website for more information. Jay

Its easier and cheaper to take Metro North commuter rail from New Haven to Grand Central. Trip is about 110 mins.

It is possible to take Amtrak from Hartford area to New Haven THEN switch to metro north to save money.
Matching the metro north schedule with the Amtrak schedule can be tricky. Also, last amtrak train from New Haven going north leaves at about 9pm. Which means you will need to leave grand central before 6:30 pm to ensure you don't miss the last amtrak train.

there is a huge complex that is partially in Avon and partially in Farmington called Farmington Woods. They have golf courses, a clubhouse with restaurant and a few swimming pools there. The complex is older, but well maintained. Both towns have excellent schools, so it should not matter where you initially start.

However, the condo fees there are extremely high because of the size of the complex and the amenities that need to be maintained. To partially offset the fees, Farmington Woods does have some sort of special easement or something (can't think of the right word now) that allows *part* of your condo fee to be tax deductible like your property taxes. Normally, condo fees are not deductible. You still have to pay the fee, but you can deduct some of it from your income taxes.

From Western CT many people drive to Brewster, NY and take Metro North into NYC from there. I am in Litchfield county and if I ever have to go into NYC I find it easier to hop the state line than to drive down to New Haven.

You could take the station if closer to Sharon go to Pawling. I usually go to Southeast train station near Carmel NY.
