Thanks for the reminder, gotta get there to buy a snow shovel--one of ours broke last winter and they'll be all gone if I wait until the first big snow.

Last time I remember squirrels being Very Active was Fall 2014. They looked like they were panicking carrying multiple nuts in their mouths and constantly running and burying. Folklore? Maybe. Turned out that winter starting January we had record snow depth on ground and that historic February-March 2015 cold.

Fall 2015 they weren't active, moving very slow.
Fall 2016 they weren't showing signs of panic.

This year, there are a ton of acorns here. They are actively eating and burying for past 2 weeks. Not looking crazy but just obvious increased activity. I got little holes in ground everywhere. lol

What?

You can't see me.

October 9, 2017. Another Summer like Day. Moreso with the humidity than the temps though.

Temp: 73F
Dews: 72F
Rain Total past 36hrs 0.45"

I think the rain is making more colors. #Phenomenon

It's like they are literally popping out more looking more like Fall now in more areas but feeling like summer..

They are dull mind you though. Wind & rain knocking down more leaves both green and colored.

I was up in Newtown and Brookfield recently and it seems as if the colors are really dull, and many trees are bare.

Was in Yorktown Heights this morning. Thought it was August.

Here's Route 8 yesterday. Should we start worrying about snow with leaves on trees yet?

October 17, 2017. First Frost of the season. Air Temp Minimum was 38.2°

9 images.

This is one reason why it happened... It was clear skies all night. Ground radiated very well so the actual surfaces were at freezing. Cold airmass aloft, no winds and it was in the low 40s by midnight already...

Woke up to frost on car..

Frost on grass...

Frost on roofs..

BTW - You can see where the heat loss from inside is. Areas without frost means heat was escaping from the Attic/Top floor.

No Frost under the Trees but clearly see frost was around

Frosty roofs everywhere

Steam from pond.

Fire inside!

Very interesting that no frost forms under the trees.

That photo is also very beautiful. It's the type that would make it to a very nice calendar.

Hopefully last night's cold temperatures will help speed up the changing of colors on the leaves.
