Hi we are planning to move to Mystic/Stonington area from the UK in the summer for 3 years, just wondered if anyone had personal experience of the local high schools?
Have read some reviews but they mostly appear to be 3+ years old and wanted more than just the statics/ figures.

Stonington HS is a good school with a good breadth of course offerings at the high school level and some excellent extra curricular activities - definitely one of the better musical theater programs at the high school level in the state. However, I've heard from more than a few people that they do have some issues with students of different economic classes not getting along with each other at the high school level. While this can happen anywhere, I've heard it's more prominent in Stonington/Mystic than other towns in the area. (I met a family recently that lived in Mystic that is moving to East Lyme for that reason - pulling 3 kids out of the Stonington schools.)

The OP needs to understand that Mystic is not a town. It is a section of two towns that straddles the Mystic River. One side of the river is the Town of Groton, the other Stonington. Kids on the Groton side go to Groton schools, while the Stonington side go to Stonington schools. Schools in Stonington are generally considered to be better. The OP should however understand that towns in Connecticut are small so they could easily live in another town and commute to Mystic. A town like East Lyme would be less than a 30 minute drive. Jay

Jay- your comment about Mystic has been pointed out to the OP multiple times on their previous threads. It doesn't seem to be sinking in.

This is the same poster that wanted the best of the best for schools and they were thinking of sending their child to the International Baccalaureate school in East Hartford. Now they seem to be considering Groton High School in addition to Stonington as they keep speaking of " the local high schools". I don't get it- Groton schools are no one's favorite.

I guess coming from another country is overwhelming them with choices that are so different than the UK. Yes, I agree with you. If they want the best schools in the New London area it would be East Lyme. Then followed by Old Lyme/ Lyme regional. Nothing else comes close.

OP, please consider your choices carefully. It seems you will only be here for three years. Then moving back home I would guess. Pick carefully for your children. You don't them to fall behind in regards to schooling when you go home because of inferior choices made here. Good luck with your move.
