Well SailQ I don't disagree with you about the pizza at the Mystic Pizza (it had a different name before the movie, right?) but their seafood pizza was to diiiiieee for. Beautiful town. CT has a lot of beautiful towns near water, like Saybrook, Haddam, and Essex. I always wanted to go to Randall's Ordinary for Thanksgiving dinner but we moved to CA before I got the chance. Have you done that?

The downtown area of mystic is really nice. Theres a small drawbridge and little stores. It's nice to watch the boats come in to dock and it has a real small town feel.
The art festival in the summer is great too, it always seems to get bigger. This year I got sunburned because we underestimated how big it would be.
In fact you could just drive along route 1 and hit all the small towns. We've done that before and it's a good drive.
As much as I like to visit these small towns, I do like to live near a bigger city however. I find the smaller towns are fun during the day to walk around and to grab some good dinner but at night there isn't much to do.

Hello SailQA17,
I will agree with you about there being beter places to eat than Mystic Pizza, but I must correct you as to the timing of the movie and the resturant. Mystic Pizza has been there for well over 30 years and the outside of the resturant was used in the filming of the movie.
I have lived in Groton for over 30 years and love it. (Mystic is part of Groton)There is more to Mystic than the downtown and village tourist areas. There are many lovely neighborhoods to chose from and the schools are good, more than enough churches to pick from, plenty of playgrounds and parks, several libraries and lots of community events. Mystic is nicely located for day trips to NYC and Boston. It is a nice place to raise a family.

Springs are late to arrive but very pretty- the most pleasant time of the year is late summer into late autumn.
Lots of antique shops- great places to eat, with lots of interesting local history. The Sea Life Aquarium is renowned. Shopping is ample in town with small shops that offer unique items- more 'big box stuff' in Groton and New London. There is close proximity to local beaches along LI Sound and Block Island Sound in CT. The golden beaches on the Atlantic, with its surf are in Rhode Island.
A very pleasant place to live.

A couple of questions about Mystic
1) Allegencies. Is this Yankee, Red Sox, NY, BOS, or BOTH?
Which TV stations, papers, and teams are most popular, or like much of CT is a mix between both?
Do you get YES, MSG and Giants games?
2) Snow. How much do you get, is it comparable to say Trumbull or Boston?
3) Spring. When you say late to arrive what do you mean, late to bloom, late to get warm, and what dates usually? I assume spring happens later than in Trumbull but sooner than BOS?
4) Going to the beach? Are there many nice beaches nearby or do you have to go to Rhode Island?
The Long Island Sound is polluted, and I thought you had to go to Rhode Island to hit the Ocean.
I like to surf, any good bets on surfing nearby or is that not really an option.
What about water temps, I went to Cape Cod, it was freezing, is CT and Rhode Island better for this?
Thanks.

Mystic, which is located in both Groton and North Stonington, is serviced by Comcast. I input "Rt 1, Mystic, CT 06355" to get this line-up: http://www.comcast.com/customers/clu/channelLineup.ashx YES is Position 32.

Tberg, Mystic is probably like most of CT and split down the middle on the Yankee/Bosox issue with a slight lead going to Boston.
I live in Northern CT and we get pretty much every Patriot game, Giant and Jet game on TV so Mystic is probably the same.
Mystic is an absolute beautiful New England area in all seasons. The local beaches are okay but you want to go to Rhode Island which is about 5 - 10 minutes away to really enjoy the water and coast in terms of hanging at the beach. CT beaches just do not compare although the towns surrounding the beaches are gorgeous.
In my opinion, and if I had the money, I could not think of a better area in CT to live. But as far as "body surfing" and swimming in the ocean look to RI. CT beaches are okay in a pinch but go North for bigger, wider and an open ocean.

I enjoy Mystic
some parts are rather touristy
but thus far has been able to maintain its history and charm and New England
clarity.

Do you get MSG and FSNY or only YES in Hartford County or Mystic?
I really am going to be mad if I only get Bruins games because CT is a lot more Ranger than BOS for the NHL.

I can't answer that. I'd say yeah because Long Island is across the water from Mystic, but it's my guess and it's important to you so I can't be firm. Why don't you check out on line who that area's cable service is and what is what. Another thread mentions Clinton which is fifteen to twenty minutes South of Mystic doesn't get certain NY channels so I dunno. I think with dish TV you could get whatever you want. All I can say is Mystic is a nice region of CT.

It's nice, but I'd be happier if they had MSG, YES, and FSNY, it's CT which is more NY than BOS overall and thus people looking to relocate into a nicer quieter area shouldn't have to be forced to go dish or be blacked out of NY sports, if you can't get a dish, for BOS teams when both are popular there.
