I agree, Jay. I understand that most people like new & shiny homes with modern bells & whistles, but those big tract developments transform a formerly beautiful and historic landscape into nondescript sprawl & congestion. Turning unique Connecticut into generic America.

We have always bought fixer uppers, so I admit a bias. And I'm grieving because a beautiful old Italianate on a hill in Wilton got raised yesterday for condos. Lovely.

I can agree with this. We've had one fixer upper and one newly built home. The fixer up when done was definitely more fulfilling.

Probably will get lots of flak for this. The best city for development is Waterbury due to it'so location to Danbury, Middletown, Hartford, Bridgeport, and New Haven. If they could improve rail and bus lines. Lower crime rate. Lower tax rates. Improve housing. Improve shopping areas. Create a walk way. I think it would of been, but not now. Would of been a great place for a Casino, a minor league baseball team, a soccer team, outlet mall, and for Yale or Hartford to take over Waterbury hospital.

Anyways think New London will be the next big city in CT in a few year's.

I've always been a big booster of Waterbury, the gorgeous buildings and streetways is stuff of envy for cities all over the country.

It's not that I'm a downer on Waterbury, but there is very little happening in the city these days. You don't see revitalization that's going on in crumbling areas of the city the way you do in Norwalk, New Haven, Shelton, and even smaller cities like Ansonia. Waterbury has been stagnant and I don't see signs of anything changing in the foreseeable future. Believe me, I wish that wasn't the case.

Nope

Bridgeport would see revitilization way before Waterbury and New london, and that's not even going anywhere or ever going to happen.
Stamford got lucky with location. Shelton got lucky from one developer.

Waterbury has potential, but none of it looks likely to happen. Housing prices are very depressed, there are only a few good places to buy (Town Plot, East Mountain ect.) and even more places that are run down, crime ridden, with houses that look like the next Nor'easter will destroy it.

The Mixmaster is a blight on the city. There's a lot that would need to be done. If anything, the potential for development is in Naugatuck, Wolcott, Southington, Prospect before Waterbury. Just better suburbs for workers in Danbury, Hartford, Bridgeport, and New Haven.

3-5 years is not a lot of time. Besides, another Real Estate crush in the next few years -- all these pies in the sky will evaporate.

CT suck as a place for RE investment. Many other states offer much better returns.

The only thing I see, besides a few highrises in Little New York -- is maybe some revitalization. Norwich, Derby, Torrington, Bridgeport a little. That's it.
