Connecticut stereotypes
Saw the thread on the Massachusetts forum- titled 'Stereotypes of New Englanders' --- any thoughts?
What are some stereotypes of us here in Connecticut?

Well some are easy.
Negative ones
1. rich
2. snotty/stuck up
3. Rude
Ones that I dont consider negative
1. Liberal
2. Opinionated
3. Straight Forward and Honest
Something im more interested in is accents. I know i have very little since living in FL for too long. Im not sure (shore or sher lol) if u would even notice since until I moved and visited I couldnt hear it. People still ask me if im from NY or Mass alot not sure if they no the difference around here lol.

I agree with the above.
Affluent, WASPy, intellectual, liberal, snooty and frugal come to mind. Many people think everyone here owns a horse and drives a Landrover. Also, a LOT of people outside the state (and in) think Fairfield County is what all of Connecticut is like. Of course these stereotypes aren't 100% accurate. For the most part, people here are reserved, educated, honest and politically moderate while slightly leaning left.

Negative stereotypes of CT residents: Arrogant, self-involved, and elitist in nature.
Positives: Well-Educated populace and that you all maintain a higher standard of community/lifestyle than your neighbors to the north or south.

When I first heard we were moving to CT, I thought a lot of those things (rich, preppy, etc). But then I spent my first day living in New Haven. VERY wrong. lol.

We are living in Florida and looking to relocate to Bristol, I have a lot of questions about employment and living cost. I'm a Career Counselor and will like to work in the same thing up there. My other concern are the schools (High Schools and Middle Schools). Diversity, churches and a good place to live in the area are the other concerns.

Pisces - You should probably start a new thread for this question, but I will answer it any way. Bristol is a small city in central Connecticut. It is a bit off the beaten path (meaning no highway access) so it never really reached its full potental. Many of its core industries have left the city which has meant that there is a perception of urban decay. That said Bristol is home to one of the states most prestigous and prosperous businesses, ESPN. Bristol is a diverse community and has some minor issues. The schools are good but there are towns in the area that are better (some are even considered excellent rivaling the best private schools). You might want to give us a better idea of what you are looking for in a town and we can help you find a place to look. Welcome to Connecticut. Jay

Why is being "rich" a negative? It's usually a sign of having worked hard.
