Default Will work for hunting land!!

Hello,
I am a police officer from Mass that has been hunting in Conn. for several years just over the Mass line. The area that I am hunting is being developed so hunting is going south. My hunting partner and I (whom is my SGT) are looking for new lands to hunt. We have in the past done work for private land owners in turn for the rights to deer hunt on the land that they own. We have done jobs like painting, yard work and small carpentry jobs. NO $$$$ to exchange hands for work... just the right to hunt the lands that that person owns. The land needs to have a STRONG deer herd. Prefer areas that are lightly hunted or would be used only by us. Jobs would be agreed upon by both parties. We prefer jobs to be done before the season. BUT WILL work with owners at their request. Permission should be in writting so we dont run into any problems if questioned while on lands. First deer will be offered to land owner. We are SAFE ETHICAL HUNTERS!! Please serious replys only... We would like to start ASAP for next season!!! Thank you in advance!!

Where i used to live in Taconic, bordering Sheffield, hunting has diminished severly. The Nature concervancy, and the New Yorkers have bought up everything in sight and posted it heavily.I'm not sure about the rest of the border towns. The farmlands just west of Salisbury in NY seem to be the best place today for hunter friendly landowners, especially if your gonna give them a deer.Good Luck!!!

I don't understand why people don't want to kill down the deer population that is bringing Lyme disease to their yards. Go figure. Good luck and kill those deer back, that's why God put them here.

Maybe if we got rid of all these people there would be less of a problem with the deer overpopulation. Connecticut is small and densely populated, what are we, number 3 in the nation for state population?

And actually, I think God put the deer here before he put people here. lol

You would put the safety of the deer ahead of human or pets? Please!

Depends where you are. Theres alot of areas plenty unpopulated enough for hunting in CT. Especially up by the MA border.

The problem with our deer herd is directly the result of people in the suburbs that are against hunters. God put deer here but he put wolves, cougars, bears & coyotes here too. Since we took it upon ourselves to eradicate all the resident predators it truly is a responsability of people living here to maintain deer numbers at a realistic level. That they taste great is a bonus.

As a result of most bigger pieces of land being posted or bought up by the conservancy or other people & groups that dont understand nature I took up bowhunting a few years back. I do it all local within maybe a 5 town radius of Norwalk, get more deer than ever before & the landowners love me for it. Its an adjustment learning to hunt on 2 - 6 acre parsels, some are larger but thats a good average for me, but its sucessful. It also makes a gun season without a deer no big deal.

Good luck Buckhunter, wish I could help but I'm on the wrong end of the state.

No sweat, I like helping people.

I live in Fairfield county & all my CT hunting is down here. There are alot of deer here but its hard to get permision with a gun. There are alot of what they call controlled hunts on state & water company land but I never applied. From what I gather its not hard to get a permit & the regular game laws apply as far as bag limits. I might try it out this fall. My oldest son will be old enough to hunt down here then & while I'v brought him to NH for years he's never been there for a kill or gotten his own.

Do you bowhunt? Its very easy to get into a good spot with a bow & I bet your profesion might help. Local police depts will know where deer are an issue & landowners trust police & sometimes ask them about controling the deer. I'v gotten 2 spots from an officer I went to school with.

In your shoes I might ring the Town of Fairfield PD. I'd try Wilton, Weston, easton & Redding too. Theres a few big parcels in Fairfield & while I havent gotten on any, people do. You can contact Aquarion water company, they have thousands of acres open to both firearms & archery hunting. The Nature conservancy held a hunt last year in Westons Devils Den preserve too.

Have you looked at the CT DEP's website?

Red face reply to tin Knocker

Tin Knocker,

First off all I would like to thank you for your help!! YOU ARE THE ONLY one that has replied to my countless posts all over the place. It's nice to know that there is some REAL SPORTSMAN still out there. Ones that are willing to help out another sportsman.

Even tho we are police officers we still get opposition.... I have been looking in Fairfield County with NO LUCK!!! I have thought of writting the PD's in that area but not sure if they would believe whom I am. I hate to ask you this but could your give your friend whom is a police officer also my email address to contact me so we could do the "cop coneection" threw guys on PD's in that area???? That way if he wants to confirm whom I am and what we do ...he can.

Yes!!! We are BIG TIME bow hunters!!! We prefer to bow hunt over gun...But of course we gun hunt also (I love black powder).... It would be greatly appreciated!!! I would hope to return the favor to you sometime..Heck maybe we could hook up and hunt togther sometime!!! Also Tell your son to hang in there!!!! He will get one soon enough!!! It will be one of the best days of his life with his dad!! Reply to smmtb46@aol.com
