Hi All,

How's the chance and the process for school district open enrollment? We are moving to CT pretty soon, we are thinking to live in Plainville, New Britain, Bristol area and have our children try the lottery of open enrollment for schools at Farmington and Southington. Houses at our budget are really not that ideal in Farmington and Southington.

Is it super hard for the lottery? Our older one is only 3 now, so we have 2 or 3 more years to try the lottery. (I would assume the pre-school also has lottery and if we can get pre-school lottery then the elementary would be ours automatically)

Can anyone give me some information on this? I have reviewed some webpages but no one mentioned about the chance and hwo good or bad of the placement.

Thank you all!

Farmington and Southington do not enroll students from Plainville, New Britain or Bristol. Each of those districts have their own school systems for their residents.

That is correct. There is no open enrollment or lottery for outside students in those towns. This is why you pay more for homes in Farmington and Southington. Of the towns you mentioned I would consider Plainville. It is a nice working class community with decent schools. Why not just look there? Jay

?? Not sure what you are asking; it's actually against the rules to live in 1 town and then enroll your school age kids in a neighboring town in CT. School districts chase down and enforce the rules against families that do that. School districts are specific to the town you live in, and then from there it's the street address within the town that the determines which elementary school you're assigned, you need to provide address info and lease or deed documents to prove where you live. Not a lottery system. Even regionalized districts usually have their own elementary school building per town, with the middle and high schools regionalized. There is a lottery (I think) for the very few magnet schools , not sure how that works.

I'm guessing maybe you're asking about headstart programs? I'm almost sure you get autimatically enrolled in the town you live in for elementary levels.. For example, Seymour's head start program is run by the TEAM organization in Ansonia, but thats just where the program offices are, Ansonia residents' kindergarteners would go to Kindergarten in Ansonia, Seymour's kids would go to Seymour Kindergarten.
I'm fairly sure that is the same in the towns you listed.

The open choice lottery for out of district enrollment in the towns you listed is only available to residents of Hartford.
