Hi,

My wife and I are moving from Virginia in August. She'll be working in downtown Hartford and I'll be working in White Plains. Ideally, we'd like to find a spot where the commute (either by car or public transportation) would be around 1 hour each way. No kids, no pets, so no concerns there. Any suggestions on where we should be looking for houses?

Thanks!

Joe

Newtown, but both of you would need cars.

Around Southbury seems like a good middle point.

Welcome to Connecticut !

The halfway point between Hartford and White Plains, NY is Milford/New Haven CT area. I recommend Milford, North Haven, Hamden(Try to stay away from southern Hamden areas such as dixwell ave, circular ave area anything within 1-1.5 mile from New Haven border rest of Hamden is fine.

New Haven area to Hartford is 40 mins-50 mins, You are on Metro North line to NYC and White Plains

You going to have take the Metro North to Harlem 125th Street then transfer for Harlem Line to go White Plains or Metro North to Stamford then bus leaving Stamford to White Plains it going be long commute.

Thank you. So that brings up another question - Am I better off commuting along I-84 / 684 or along I-95, or even Route 15? Any difference in terms of commuter traffic? Neither of us mind getting an early start, I guess it's the drive home that I'm more concerned with.

I would agree with bpt111 - if your company in White Plains has a means of getting you from the train station in WP to work, I would look to somewhere around Milford or Orange close to Route 15. Your wife could take 15 North to Meriden and then up 91 into Hartford. You could take the train to WP and then a shuttle to the office.

I think the Newtown area is a much wiser choice.

The traffic on 95/15 from the New Haven area to White Plains will be unbearable. Newtown gives access on 84 to Hartford and White Plains via 684. Much easier commute on both ends.
