A friend of mine is taking the train to Greenwich Saturday morning and we're planning to do a hike or maybe some kayaking. I'd prefer a hike... so are there any decent hiking trails in Greenwich, Stamford, New Canaan or Darien? Or any other recommendations? Thanks!

Mianus Park on the Greenwich/Stamford line. There's a trailhead entrance on Cognewah Rd on the Greenwich side. The Stamford side entrance is in the Westover area, I forget the name of the road.
Thanks. I was eyeing Babcock in Greenwich online -- any idea how they compare?
Oh yeah, I forgot about Babcock. Used to do some mountain biking there as well, though not as much as Mianus. If I recall, it had more technically difficult terrain (for biking at least).
Babcock is great. An easy hike and I believe free parking as well. If you wanted to go up the line a bit, Redding and Weston have some decent hikes as well!
Mianus river park is free, Todd's point is going to cost you as an out-of-towner. Not sure what ur hiking level is but i find the "hiking" in FFC underwhelming. But i like being challenged.
When I lived in lower FFC, I was appalled at the minimal selection of places to go hiking. It was awful. In order to go anywhere truly good, I had to drive all the way up into the Hudson valley area of NY or Litchfield County or eastern/northern CT.

You're comparing a tiny area of 10 or so towns against the vast Hudson Valley and upstate counties. Of course there's a minimal selection.
And why would you be appalled? one should have more important things to be appalled about.
I'm not sure Nep is an avid hiker. Could only imagine his reaction from a bee sting or a run in with a bear.
