Hi everyone - I have been in CT for the last 7 years. I have a 5 year old child and finally decided to move to a nice school district. Believe it or not, I have weighed in all options to move down south and finally decided to stay put. Don't ask me why..may be I am just crazy.
Anyways, we zeroed in on a home on New London Tpke in S Glastonbury but my realtor is dissuading us gently that people in Glastonbury buy again in Glastonbury (either move up or down depending on fortunes) and everyone knows not to buy on New London Tpke. Can folks from Glastonbury weigh in? Would you guys hate buying homes on New London Tpke?

People will still buy a home on a busy street in a town with great schools like Glastonbury. However, you are definitely going to lose at least part of the market when it comes to selling the home again in the future - at least some families with kids will absolutely not consider a home on a busy street and/or not in a neighborhood setting, especially if the kids are younger. I'm not saying everybody would lose interest, but if there are 20 buyers in your price range in Glastonbury and 5 cross it off due to the busy street, you've lost 25% of the market.
Wow!! i really like the way you put it. Thanks for taking time. Really appreciate it.
and, my 5 out of 20 buyers was just pulled out of thin air - it could be only 1 buyer that would eliminate a home on a busy street, or it could be more than 5.

No if anything I think at least half would not consider a home on such a busy street. As someone who grew up on a busy street I know I would not consider a home there. Jay

Same here. We are just currently renting, but when we buy I am would not want to buy on a main street, especially if you have children/pets. When I was about 9 yrs old, we had a dog that was outside. My parents had her on run or something. However, she was very strong and broke off the run and ran into the street and was killed. She was only about 1 or 2 years old. For that very reason - I would never want to buy a house on a main street.
I'm sure you can find another nice home in Glastonbury w/in your price range.

we were considering a gorgeous home on a busy road last year - had all the bells & whistles we wanted - 3 car garage, sprinkler system, finished basement, all features updated in the last 4-5 years, etc. It had a fenced back yard, so we could have let our cat out into the backyard. However, it didn't seem like the fence would have prevented a determined cat from getting out by squeezing underneath. A few days later, I was driving by that house and not two houses down the street from it, there was a dead house cat in the road.
never buy a house on a busy street, growing up my parents always said those are the worst streets if you have children.
can you look for something in your price range on a quieter street and if you cant find anything you like are you willing to look outside of glastonbury
Agree with everyone else, don't buy on a busy street, unless it works for you and do not ever plan to sell it.
