Hi. We are considering a relocation to CT (work at Stamford) and plan to live either in Westport or New Canaan since they have the highest ranking school districts (kid in middle school). We are looking for rentals.

I think there are more options in both of these towns when it comes to single family houses/townhouses for rent but we prefer a modern apartment complex because it's easy maintenance. I checked online and could not see any apartment complexes within Westport or New Canaan. All I could find was houses.

Would you be able to give names of apartment complexes that you suggest to check in Westport / New Caanaan?

JB

I don't believe there are a lot of apartment complexes in those towns, especially modern. Others might know more. There is Avalon in Darien, which has all the advantages of the other towns and is next door to Stamford and an easier commute (especially compared to Westport).

We'd like to stay within the public school district zones either in Westport or New Canaan. So, Avalon in Darien would not work. Can not see anything online. So, there is no Avalon (or something similar) in Westport or New Canaan?

Why wouldn't Avalon in Darien work? It is located in Noroton Heights which is a section of Darien. Kids there go to Darien schools just like any others.

One thing you need to understand, unlike other parts of the country, each town in Connecticut decides where their students go to school. Most towns have their own school districts for student in their town. We have a couple of regional districts but they are for smaller towns that share a school district (like Easton and Redding share a middle and high school). In Darien, Westport and New Canaan, students that live in their town go to schools in that town. Darien has excellent schools so it should not be an issue. Jay

I forgot about the Avalon in New Canaan. Right outside of downtown so very convenient. It's surrounded by "affordable" housing (but newly rebuilt and very nice), Lakeview Cemetery (which is like a park), and the town dump, lol.

New Canaan Apartments in Fairfield County | Avalon New Canaan

Starts at $3,060.

Avalon is your only real option with that criteria- Darien & New Canaan. The one in Darien is walkable to the train station which is a huge plus while the New Canaan one is slightly less so.

Thank you very much for all this helpful info. I'm surprised that apartment complexes are very limited in this area. I was hoping to find at least a few and compare them but finding even one option is not easy!

Might as well look at Greenwich. Definitely more apartment choices, an easy commute to Stamford and excellent schools. Although if you think Darien schools aren't up to snuff, you may not like the Greenwich schools.
